Another day at Microsoft UK

Fortunately I work at a place where that happens pretty much on a daily basis...and a place where we're encouraged to blog to share our ideas and connect with customers and partners. There are now just short of 4000 bloggers at Microsoft worldwide though I don't have an accurate view of how many in the UK. Around 150 is my guess and I'm hoping that my pal Brad Tipp who has just rejoined Microsoft joins the fray - he always has something to contribute and is a great bloke with lots of knowledge to share.

Come on in Brad, the water's warm :)

As I say on my blog, I am now beginning to enjoy Microsoft.

Previously I , and I suspect millions of others, perceived MS as a leviathan ('scuse the analogy) without a heart. No pulse or warmth. Not a human in sight except Bill in front of a cold global software assembly plant staffed by humanoids.

By blogging, you and your colleagues have opened up MS to reveal that the innards are indeed made up of warm, people with hearts, with families, have smiles and wow, you do have senses of humour!

This is incredible. Who'd have thought that a corporation like MS was human afterall!? We do noe. All because you are engaging with us at our level and this is a conversation I relate to and like very much. I hope many more do too.

Now answer this:

Did you enjoy reading the Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack or would you prefer to opt for Harry Potter, Bill Clinton's autobiography or Hugh Macleod's "Evil Plan" instead?

Hi Robert

I can't tell you how much this comment made me smile. After blogging for 6 months, your email is the first hard evidence I can take back to the naysayers who think blogging isn't having an impact. Thank you.

You're right, this place is full of warm, passionate, enthusiastic and real people...with real lives and lots of humour. It's so rewarding to hear that people notice.

On the reading front it's a tricky one. My days of reading product info are well gone so I think I'll have to go for Clinton or Hugh...though currently reading Col Tim Collins books. Riveting. Along with about 70 blogs of course :)
