Bill Gates, Bugs and Books
Bill was on stage at TED today and caused a flutter in the audience and on Twitter when he released a troop of mosquitoes in to the audience. He was talking malaria and I’ve got to say, this sure sounds like it beat some of his CES demos.
“I brought some mosquitoes - we’ll let them roam around the auditorium. There’s no reason only the poor should experience this…” Gates jokes
…this from Ethan’s coverage of Rebooting: Bill Gates. I can’t wait to see the full video of the talk. After the mosquito thing he went on to talk about education and promised everyone a copy of Work Hard. Be Nice which is a good enough endorsement that I just went and bought a copy. I also noticed it in swag bag photo from Tara
One quotes I grabbed from Tara was
"education is THE most important thing to improve to make this country right"
but even better as it beautifully mixes Bill’s inner geek with outer humility is
“I don't think anybody should optimize for their epitaph”
Anyway, if you’re at all interested in either of these topics you could do a lot worse than read the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Annual Letter. Very readable, very educational and very good.
