Geek In Disguise

I'm a Mac guy, and I'll admit this is a good ad for the times.  People don't feel like they have as much money to spend; and this ad shows Lauren getting a laptop with a 17 inch screen for under $1,000.

On the other hand; there will always be people willing to spend more money for a system with OS X.

Exactly what HP configuration did she get? Her only criterion was a laptop with a 17 in screen. The ad shows her sale at $699.99 for "everything she wanted". It looks like she did get a white case (+$25.00). Aside from that, with all of the rest of the $0 options (no Bluetooth, wireless-g, no-modem, no-security, base software, etc. ), the HP site gives a price of 974.99 with a 150.00 rebate, $824.99.

So where did she get the rest of her discount?

Just curious.

If it was any other brand, I would have been drawn - but HPs are a piece of crap. So if I had to choose b/w a Mac and a HP, I would take the money and put it in a savings account!

It's not that you aren't cool enough to be a Mac person... No, it's that you're not smart enough to realize the total economic picture of the piece of crap laptop you just purchased. That's the reason why you're not a Mac person.

Wow, she managed to get a machine that was slow 4 years ago for under $1,000.  Within a month she'll be slamming her face against the keyboard.  GJ.

All you have to do is look right here to see one of the biggest difficulties facing people trying to buy a PC... finding the advertised price.

When Joe and Jane Customer see this ad, and go looking for a machine, do you think they'll really find the same one she did? Tom didn't, and I'd say simply posting a blog comment makes him more internet-saavy than most *average* consumers out there...

When people have less money to spend, they have less money to waste, and buying a bottom-of-the-barrel machine with what has been consistently rated at the worst OS from a company with a poor record for reliability is not a smart decision.

funkymonkey - how is that machine slow 4 years ago? everything was slow 4 years ago compared to machines now....and for $1000?

When she is entering the store there is a man in spectacles, in a brown jacket, striped tee and jeans (BJJ)whom she walks past, and the next second when she is out of the store after having checked the mac line up, our BJJ is probably moved another 10 feet ahead.

Oh come on... the 'CAMERA 2' could've at least waited for a few more seconds before it rolled again. It just kills the whole testimonial ad for me, making it sound like a lie, and you probably briefed Lauren about the $1000 Mac while she was in the car, then told her walk up and walk out. CUT.
