I'm no expert as there are others in Microsoft UK who have been at this a lot longer than me but given they asked I gave

re: 3 Productivity Tips For Blog Readers

I love team blogs :-) they are often better than individual blogs for tracking a specific technology (i.e. product group team blogs - not sure role-specific team blogs would work so well)... in fact, it would be great if the MSDN blog feed had aggregated topics you could subscribe to...

Images = nice but not essential - I often sync feeds and read them off line - images rarely sync

Tips I would add = love Technorati but don't live by it. Resist the temptation to write stuff on the basis it might influence your rank and avoid writing something just for the sake of proving you post regularly

Loving your blog, btw :-) (there's another tip - tell someone when you like their blog - it's the little things...)

- Be open to other technology (and you did well on that Steve)

- Open to comments and listen/respond to them. One thing I really hate about the team blogs is that they don't get any responses! Hundreds have posted on IEblog but I don't get the feel that the team is responding... even worse at Messenger blog when they just closed the comment section all together... the blog is about conversation, not lectures... or I could've bought a book myself...

I feel a little irritated when I visit a blog I read a lot because it's about his/hers/their technology, and instead of a new article about what I think is so cool there is a new diatribe about the road trip to Indianna (no insult intended, Hoosiers), to see Aunt Ellen, or the neat stuff they did to their car, or some other such non-fascinating blather..

Im also going to follow Scott Guthrie' lead and try to do demos using videos.

I think you need to constantly add new interesting infomation to keep people reading.
