&lt;p&gt;Yes, SQLce is free. &amp;nbsp;And yes, connecting to SQL Server Standard, Workgroup or Enterprise does require a CAL, regardless of whether you connect via Sync Services, Merge, RDA, or simply use the SqlConnection. &amp;nbsp;Sort of what you're asking is does using the free version of SQLce give you a free connection to SQL Server &amp;lt;g&amp;gt;. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
