National Society of Black Engineers
Today was N.S.B.E. Day and I forgot to celebrate by representing and recruiting! I had the perfect shirt, too. NSBE is the National Society of Black Engineers, an org formed in the 70s by black engineering students so that they could pool resources, study, and collaborate otherwise to ensure their success in college and later in their engineering careers. NSBE has grown and is still very much alive today. There are regions around the world each organized so that each university recieves the attention it needs to. There are also NSBE Jr. chapters at middle and high schools. Microsoft is one of the largest sponsors and actively recruits at most NSBE events!
NSBE was a huge part of my college success and I encourage everyone to take a look and tell someone you know who could use some help. It hooked me up with mentoring seniors, hardware, software, notes I didn't have access to and just lots of cool people everywhere. Also, the conventions are a great time for networking, learning, and seeing new places. The next national one is Pittsburgh. However, you may see me at the Fall Regional Conference in L.A. in November.
You can see me in this picture at the Boeing Flight Competition in Dallas in '04 where the USC chapter won 3rd prize.
Stan.
P.S. The Mariner's game was fun. Los Angeles was more fun. Las Vegas was most fun.
