Running a compaq presario r3160 with amd 64 bit, 3200+ with 756MB ram for four months now - on x64 windows xp pro edition.
Very stable, supports more than MS said it would, surprised about all those who are scared to try it. Only wireless card and sound card are not working (not requirements for me in work environment anyway), but well, my solution was to setup windows media center 2005 - dual booting. And there, all I need works also, for a liesure OS. Sound card, games, wireless all work. Suggest this to anyone hesitating on the x64 xp OS move - as long as you have a real 64bit chip to profit from the fast image crunching (I love digital photography and videos) you get from the processor achitecture.
Only ie doesn't work in WMC, but hey, firefox is great - so don't hesitate to drop IE or use x64.
For the applications, basically all good professoinal apps run on x64, so don't worry about moving to x64.
Cannot wait to get all my servers on Opterons!
