PDC – 2009 is almost here!!!

PDC – Professional Developers conference is the premier Microsoft conference focusing on developer community. We show off our upcoming technologies and releases at this conference. It is going to be a big week for BizTalk Server too. We have multiple sessions and we will be rolling out BizTalk Server roadmap as part of the event.

Germany Visit: tech-ed Europe 2009

This week I was in Germany of tech-ed Europe 2009. I reached Berlin on 9th Morning and headed straight to Messe, Berlin location of the event. It was fun to travel through Berlin city. I love train networks in Europe. :)

I could not sleep much on Sunday night due to jet lag. Monday morning I delivered a session on Integration and Interop along with couple of my colleagues. After the event we headed to enjoy the celebrations at Berlin city center on 20th anniversary of fall of Berlin wall. Was awesome event. Got back at midnight.

Had to deliver another session on BizTalk Server 2009 on Tuesday early morning hence worked on my deck and demo most of the night. Again could not sleep much. Tuesday was really hectic with my session from 9-10:15 and couple of press briefings on SQL Server later in the afternoon.

Wednesday, I had to visit a customer in Karlsruhe which is 2 hours from Frankfurt or 1 hour from Stuttgart. I took morning 6am flight to Frankfurt, met with Richard(SSP for App Plat in Germany) and headed to customers office. Had a great 3-4 hour meeting on integrations especially how they could leverage BizTalk Server. Had beer with Richard at Stuttgart airport and got back to Berlin at 10pm.

By Thursday I was completely exhausted. :( Again could not sleep much at night got some emails done and spoke to my wife at 5:00am. Then I crashed and when I got up it was 2:00am and cleaning crew was banging my door. :) Got up headed to do booth duty at the show. Went out for dinner with all the colleagues to a great Italian Restaurant. :)

I did not sleep whole night on Thursday and headed back to US on Friday. :) Now time to pack-up and go to LA for PDC. We are announcing BizTalk Server roadmap next week at PDC. Stay tuned.

Microsoft announces new BizTalk Server 2009 SKUs for partners

Today at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference, we announced availability for BizTalk Server 2009 Enterprise Runtime, BizTalk Server 2009 Standard Runtime Edition, and BizTalk Server 2009 RFID.

We recently launched BizTalk Server 2009, which is currently helping more than 8500 customers worldwide to integrate business applications and partners and to automate and simplify processes, and the customer base continues to grow

We offer multiple editions of BizTalk Server to enable any size company to leverage the product capabilities.

BizTalk Server 2009 Enterprise Runtime Edition: Every application needs to integrate with other applications in customer environments and solution companies do not want to reengineer and build an integration server from scratch. BizTalk Server 2009 Enterprise Runtime edition provides all integration capabilities with high availability features and all the adapters to systems like SAP, Oracle E-Business Suite and Mainframe systems. Enterprise Runtime is a special edition for partners designed to be used in support of their ISV application, as part of a unified solution. BizTalk Server 2009 Enterprise Runtime includes all capabilities, adapters and accelerations and supports scale out/failover, multi-server configuration with multiple message boxes.

BizTalk Server 2009 Standard Runtime Edition: BizTalk Server 2009 Standard Runtime Edition is a great option for partners who need low cost option and do not need high availability. Standard Runtime includes all the capabilities of BizTalk Server along with all adapters to embed inside ISV application. Standard Runtime allows partners to deliver 1 BizTalk application and connect to 1 external application. Goal of Standard Runtime is to provide integration capability at a very low price for ISV partners.

BizTalk Server 2009 RFID Edition: RFID is being used to transform business processes by companies across industry verticals. Microsoft first delivered RFID platform as part of BizTalk Server 2006 R2. Now in its 6^th version, BizTalk Server 2009 has made major enhancements to this platform including application platform for mobile RFID devices and support for industry standards like EPCIS, LLRP, and TDT/TDS. Microsoft also received EPCIS certification from GS1 EPCGlobal for BizTalk Server 2009. BizTalk RFID 2009 is a dedicated SKU for partners and customers interested in RFID deployments. It provides capabilities like high availability, plug and play devices; enterprise manageability with System center and SDK for partners and customers to build RFID enabled solutions etc.

Microsoft Releases BizTalk Server 2009

Today we announced general availability(GA) of BizTalk server 2009. Actually I got an opportunity to announce the availability as part of my keynote at RFID Journal Live event in Orlando. :) We had roughly 2200 attendees with 3 customers(Continental, American Apparel and Vail Resorts) co-presenting with me and Colin. Microsoft unveils Retail Experience Center

Retail experience center is an amazing retail store environment created by Microsoft. I was involved in this initiative from early phases. We are showcasing multiple RFID enabled process inside the store. Starting from back store receiving location where items get tagged, store inventory is tracked and finally RFID enabled POS system helps expedite check out process. There are multiple other RFId processes and we will be adding lot more scenarios. Following is more info from Microsoft official press pass.

We are heading fast toward launch of BizTalk RFID Mobile. Our launch events will be in Las Vegas(Dec 8-10), Paris(Dec 8-10) and Dubai(Jan 5-7). In line with the launch we wanted to make the evaluation version of the software available as soon as possible to you.

BizTalk RFID sessions at Tech-Ed Dev week

This week at Tech-ed dev week I had 1 session on BizTalk RFID titled "Microsoft BizTalk RFID in Real World Deployments: Connecting Movements in the Physical World to Enterprise Applications".

We showed how developers could use BizTalk RFID and very easily collect events from RFID devices and integrate those events into backend applications using BizTalk Server. I think session was well received. We had 65+ attendees in the session with overall score of 7.73 which is in top 5 sessions in our track.

Other than this I also recorded a video for my first video podcast. Tech-ed team had done a great job of having production team onsite to record 20 minutes sessions. Title of our session was "Mobile RFID Scenarios". Link for the video will be available in 1 weeks time.

BizTalk RFID @ Tech-ED Dev week

This week was Tech-Ed Developer week. Bill Gates kicked off the event. It was huge event with more than 4000 developers attending. BizTalk RFID was there too. Cathexis one of our core partners showed a complete end to end RFID enabled attendee management for our booth. People could come in and get their batches and register for prices. We gave away 1 Zune everyday and few instant prices. People came again and again to the booth to increase their chances of winning.

Many developers were excited to see how they could build RFID enable applications in .NET without much hassle. Go BizTalk RFID!!! We are now gearing up for Tech-ED IT Pro next week which will have double the attendance.

Tech-Ed 2008 for Developer kicked off by Bill Gates

Today morning 8:30am Bill Gates kicked off Tech-ED 2008 for Developers. It will be a 4 day event with multiple tracks focused at developers. I arrived in Orlando yesterday evening for the event yesterday evening. I am giving a breakout session at 3:00PM today afternoon. Please stop by if you are attending Tech-ED in room 202C.

Bill's Keynote was great as usual. Brian Harry who ran my previous team(TFS) was on stage showing a demo(VS Architect) along with Soma(WPF - Silverlight & VS), Dave Campbell(SQL 2008) and GM for Robotics.

Microsoft has a huge partner community around RFID. This week with the launch of beta for our mobility platform we got a great response from our mobility partners. Following are quotes from our key partners

First Microsoft RFID Solutions Days was a BIG SUCCESS!!!

Last week was a big week for RFID in Microsoft. We hosted the first WW Microsoft RFID solution days. It was first RFID event of its kind hosted by Microsoft with major involvement from our core RFID partners, Microsoft RFID team, BizTalk Field and Microsoft Industry vertical team.

With more than 300 attendees, more than 50 unique customers, 16 core partner sponsors and major representation from MS Field the event was very well received. I have been receiving continuous emails from various attendees saying the event had exceeded their expectations. Keynote for the event was given by John Fontanella from AMR Research and Charles Johnson Director WW Manufacturing at Microsoft.

Along with the event on 18th and 19th we had 2 days of post conference training on BizTalk RFID. Our initial plan was to train 60 attendees. We had to increase that number to 100 and still could not provide seat to everyone interested. The training went so well that everyone attending training was in class and working on there labs almost until 7:00PM on second day.
