Microsoft announces new BizTalk Server 2009 SKUs for partners

Today at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference, we announced availability for BizTalk Server 2009 Enterprise Runtime, BizTalk Server 2009 Standard Runtime Edition, and BizTalk Server 2009 RFID.

We recently launched BizTalk Server 2009, which is currently helping more than 8500 customers worldwide to integrate business applications and partners and to automate and simplify processes, and the customer base continues to grow

We offer multiple editions of BizTalk Server to enable any size company to leverage the product capabilities.

BizTalk Server 2009 Enterprise Runtime Edition: Every application needs to integrate with other applications in customer environments and solution companies do not want to reengineer and build an integration server from scratch. BizTalk Server 2009 Enterprise Runtime edition provides all integration capabilities with high availability features and all the adapters to systems like SAP, Oracle E-Business Suite and Mainframe systems. Enterprise Runtime is a special edition for partners designed to be used in support of their ISV application, as part of a unified solution. BizTalk Server 2009 Enterprise Runtime includes all capabilities, adapters and accelerations and supports scale out/failover, multi-server configuration with multiple message boxes.

BizTalk Server 2009 Standard Runtime Edition: BizTalk Server 2009 Standard Runtime Edition is a great option for partners who need low cost option and do not need high availability. Standard Runtime includes all the capabilities of BizTalk Server along with all adapters to embed inside ISV application. Standard Runtime allows partners to deliver 1 BizTalk application and connect to 1 external application. Goal of Standard Runtime is to provide integration capability at a very low price for ISV partners.

BizTalk Server 2009 RFID Edition: RFID is being used to transform business processes by companies across industry verticals. Microsoft first delivered RFID platform as part of BizTalk Server 2006 R2. Now in its 6^th version, BizTalk Server 2009 has made major enhancements to this platform including application platform for mobile RFID devices and support for industry standards like EPCIS, LLRP, and TDT/TDS. Microsoft also received EPCIS certification from GS1 EPCGlobal for BizTalk Server 2009. BizTalk RFID 2009 is a dedicated SKU for partners and customers interested in RFID deployments. It provides capabilities like high availability, plug and play devices; enterprise manageability with System center and SDK for partners and customers to build RFID enabled solutions etc.

Many of you have asked me about Dynamics Nav and RFID story. Following blog post by Naveen is a great one to get started.

Now it was left for us to how to provide a solution in a timely manner that our partners and customers could benefit from. To begin with we chose Microsoft BizTalk RFID technology that provides a device independent platform for integrating various RFID scanners, printers and solutions. This technology platform coupled with power of Dynamics NAV gave us ample opportunity to build a showcase implementation.

BizTalk Mobile case study: Score Group plc

Another BizTalk Mobile Case study is live.

Score Group plc wanted to streamline a paper-based process that employees use to track valve-inspection information. The solution needed to be portable and easy to use by both employees in warehouses and personnel in rugged, offshore environments. The company addressed its challenges by using a radio frequency identification (RFID) solution built with Microsoft® BizTalk® RFID Mobile and Windows Mobile® devices. Microsoft Gold Certified Partner IDBLUE helped to design and deploy the solution in just three months. The new automated system has reduced valve-inspection times and helped to improve employee productivity in the office—both by 5 to 15 percent. In addition, the solution promotes greater levels of data accuracy and is flexible and scalable so that Score Group can adapt it to support additional corporate locations and to provide for automated billing.

Sure Reach: Records-Management Company Deploys RFID at the Item Level

Dave Friedlos from RFID Journal has written a great article on Sure Reach.Sure Reach has deployed RFID enabled records management systems based on BizTalk RFID. HP is the global partners who has made this happen. :)

Sure-Reach has attached EPC Gen 2 tags to 1.1 million documents, making the Malaysian firm more efficient and better able to locate and inventory its clients' records.

A Malaysian records-management company is employing radio frequency identification to track more than 1 million paper documents and 500,000 cartons.
Sure-Reach, which stores its clients' records, is using ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) EPC Gen 2 tags at its warehouse in Shah Alam, near Kuala Lumpur, to track the documents throughout the facility, and to improve the process of taking inventory.

Tagged documents and boxes are identified as they enter or leave Sure-Reach's warehouse in Shah Alam.

In launching our blog, I introduced 10 Megatrends I saw shaping future supply chain investments. One of those was “Sensor Enabling Supply Chains”, and while I wasn’t just referring to RFID, I want to draw everyone’s attention to our recent introduction of Mobile support for BizTalk RFID, and some innovative work demonstrating this capability at the Gartner AADI Conference earlier this week. What was particularly exciting about this demonstration by the Microsoft BizTalk RFID team and S3Edge, was how on-premise RFID captured on premise, was made available in the ‘Cloud’ for multi-enterprise visibility, analysis and collaboration. Microsoft Manufacturing & Resources Blog : RFID Momentum

Tyler Bryson, the US General Manager for Manufacturing at Microsoft runs Microsoft Manufacturing & Resources Blog. He recently posted a blog post on RFID Momentum. Greg Walker our Supply Chain expert was the author of the post. I think it is great to hear about RFID momentum from people who are talking to customers everyday. :)

But the RFID conversations I have on a daily basis with our Manufacturing customers are not about mandates or the latest active tag capabilities. They are about business value and how RFID can be leveraged in their supply chains and manufacturing facilities to drive a level of visibility and execution that was not possible before RFID.
