Windows Embedded, Air that we breathe!

In preparation for the upcoming release of Silverlight 2, we have released Silverlight 2 Release Candidate 0 (RC0) to developers to start the process of updating their code. Scott Guthrie just wrote about this in his blog yesterday. All of the details, including a breaking changes document are here http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/sl2rc0.aspx and here . As I have written a number of samples that use Silverlight 2 Beta 2, I will be going through this process with you as well – and blogging

One of the fun Silverlight 1 applications that I built over the past year was Ball Watch's Trainmaster Cannonball ( http://xmldocs.net/ball ). After seeing an ad in Wired magazine, I contacted the manufacturer with an idea and was sent a 2.93 MB TIF image of this watch. In about 8 hours using Expression Blend, I created this watch and put it online ( see blog post ). Yesterday I wanted to see how long it would take to convert it to Silverlight 2 (Beta 2). The answer - about

Over the past few months, I have been working on a Silverlight kit for Photobucket's API . I have used this sample to demonstrate a few things: How to build an API kit for a REST Library How to adapt existing .Net code to Silverlight (OAuth Library) How to build a unit test application for a Silverlight API Kit: see http://xmldocs.net/sketchbook/test.html for the current test suite. How to integrate Flash Video with Silverlight Applications: see http://xmldocs.net/sketchbook , search for a

Last week the DPE team at Microsoft launch a new site was launched with articles especially written for flash developers and designers that want to learn about Silverlight: Project Rosetta . To start there is a collection of 9 lessons that focus on one specific feature and explain the concept including the source code and assets. You will see that the way these lessons explain the concept to take advantage of existing skills and apply these to a new technology, Silverlight in this case. This is the

Next week I will be in New York City meeting customers and I will be holding a free half-day mini-workshop at the Microsoft office on 6th Avenue to teach people about building Silverlight and WPF applications with Expression Studio and Visual Studio. I've put together an ambitious agenda but I hope to hit each of these topics with examples and demonstrations using both Expression Studio and Visual Studio. Since I work with Media and Communications companies, there will be a slight

I love using Expression Blend. With both a design education (architecture) and a career in software development, I've become somewhat of an expert on using Microsoft's Expression Blend for designing WPF and Silverlight user experiences. Over the past year, watching (and participating in) its progression from version 1.0 to 2.0 to 2.5 (beta) I've seen this amazing design tool grow. Microsoft created it as an design tool for interactive designers - where designers crafted experiences

One of the things that I like to do (and used to do more often) is participate in local user groups. Over the summer, I became the Chair of the SDForum Windows SIG -- the most established Windows developer user group in Silicon Valley. This gives me the opportunity to engage with the community, find out what they're interested in and invite notable speakers to present to the group. Our first meeting will take place this coming Thursday, August 28, at the Microsoft Silicon Valley campus in Mountain
