The Little Wheel Goes in Back

Musings on simulated things, now being of the large and extremely heavy variety.

I'm a big fan of documentaries and Nova on PBS is one of my favorite series. This past week they had an absolutely fantastic 2-hour program called "Einstein's Big Idea" that provides the story behind his theory of general relativity. It literally takes you back and explains the history of each component of that famous equation--the e, m, c and even the squared! It combines a historical narrative by John Litgow with dramatic reenactments of the people and events from a variety of time periods. (Incidentally John and I were both born in Rochester, New York.) The individual stories of people like Michael Faraday, Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier, and particularly Emilie du Châtelet were fascinating in their own right. I would highly recommend the program for you science history buffs. Check for it locally or order it from PBS.
