Introducing the Team Foundation Blog

Welcome to the Visual Studio Team Foundation blog.  There’s already a Team System blog and a bunch of individual blogs about all things Team System, so what’s the deal with this new site?  Well, although there are a number of online resources about Team System, few focus solely on Team Foundation.  Moreover, there are bits and pieces of information on the web about the Foundation, but few are organized in a central, cohesive manner.  This is where this blog comes in.  For the next few months, team members working on the Foundation will blog here regularly about various aspects of this upcoming piece of Team System.

Some readers may pause here and ask: What exactly is Team Foundation?  For those who are unfamiliar with the Foundation, it is the server-based part of Team System that ties together many of the various pieces of the software development lifecycle.  It provides a suite of source control, work item tracking, Excel and Project integration, reporting, project portal, and build automation functionality for seamless and effective management of a team-driven development project.  But now I’m jumping ahead to next week’s topic…

The schedule above outlines the planned topics that we will cover over the next few months.  Each week we will blog about a different topic with many of the topics dovetailing into each other to sequentially cover a specific “theme” of Team Foundation.  These blogs will focus heavily on new features that have come online since the Beta 1 Refresh, but there will be a good deal of general information as well.  Over time, we will update and append to this topic list accordingly to keep the content fresh and relevant.  If there are unlisted themes or topics that you’d like to see, please let us know.

Well, that’s a wrap for this week.  If you’re itching for more on Team Foundation, check out the Beta 1 Refresh bits and catch up on discussions at the general newsgroup.  See ya next blog and Happy Holidays!
