I just got one, too, and am experiencing the same thing.  I had (still have) the 700 treo ... which, the battery was 'okay'.  I do like the  features of teh Q ... it is more like a really nice phone with some pda capabilities.  This format suites me just fine.  I didnt get the hunch back battery, though ... not yet.

I am on Q #2.  The first one I bought had the same problem. It could not make it a day with limited usage without crapping out.  I brought it in for a replacement and the new one has no problems.  Perhaps you should get a replacement?

how long is the battery supposed to last?  With normal useage?  Like how many 'talk hours'.  

Well, I am not sure about talk times as I rarely talk more than an hour or two a day.  It was the fact that it wouldnt last 24 hours with that level of use that was discouraging.  Since getting the replacement, though, I can go 3 or 4 days before needing to charge.  I really think there are defective units out there.

So what apps are you running?

I'd guess that there's something in that collection that's badly behaved and is polling for something rather than blocking. Any polling that the programmer does is going to kill battery life, because the OS won't be able to put the CPU into low power mode or even off.

Other sins are keeping timers or other update processes going when the application is in the background. Consider dropping your mail synchronization to every ten minutes or even longer.

It may of course be that the supplied battery is just too small a capacity, but you would expect Motorola to use a sufficiently large battery to get the rated standby and talk times.

I agree, and every week Internet Explorer is smelling more and more like a culprit.

Something suspiciously similar to this happens in Windows XP.  When trying to hibernate, sometimes the PC reawakens immediately with a notification saying that a system error occured.  If you go to Microsoft's Help and Support online, it says the reason is that the administrator doesn't have privileges to execute the driver, so the administrator should make sure that the administrator has privileges to execute the driver.  Which driver?  Right.  Which privileges are missing?  Right.  How come the other 80% of the time (used to be 97% of the time) the same administrator's same privileges on the same driver were sufficient to let the machine hibernate, but not these times?  Right.  Microsoft will keep blaming users and administrators, and users will keep blaming Microsoft.

When Windows XP decides it can't hibernate, it doesn't undo its decision until you reboot.  You can do a reboot and then hibernate, and it works more than 80% of the time (used to be more than 97% of the time), but what's the point, since we wanted to hibernate in order to preserve executing applications.  Well, you can do a standby.  Even when Windows won't go into hibernation, it will go into standby.

Well, the latest news is that the machine wakes up from standby too.  If you left the machine in standby and not plugged in, it runs down the battery.  If you left the machine in standby and plugged in, it overheats.

What can cause a BIOS, which has already demonstrated by LEDs that the machine is already in standby, to reawaken the machine?  Windows must have set something.  What did Windows set?

One time there was a visible hint.  Internet Explorer put up a dialog box saying it couldn't refresh, asking if I wanted to go online or stay offline.  Which Internet Explorer window was displaying that dialog?  Right.  Which web page was trying to refresh?  Right.  Is Internet Explorer really the driver which the administrator doesn't have privilege to execute?  Who knows.

Does Internet Explorer have enough power to run down Windows CE the same way it does to Windows XP?  Yes.
