Jay's blog on text-to-speech (Now Defunct)

What's up with text-to-speech (TTS) and Microsoft? Heck, what's up with TTS in general these days? Speech, language, and technology. Cool stuff, indeed.

Introduction - Who is this guy?

Hello! I supposed you may be wondering about me. I graduated with a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Washington in March of 2005. I focused on acoustic phonetics, phonology, and the second language acquisition of Spanish by native English speakers. I was fortunate to also enjoy programming (mostly Perl and Matlab) and combine it with my love of language.  Since then I've joined Microsoft, working its next generation of TTS as a program manager. Having come from an academic background, I must say that I'm really suprised at all the great people working here at Microsoft in the Speech and Natural Language Group.  All my Linux friends (and yes, they still want to be my friends) were terribly surprised to find out that people at Microsoft were human, doing things like having families and yes, even crazy things like hobbies! I'm still looking for the drones, but can't seem to find any.
