What migration tools are you looking for?

I've heard plenty of requests for tools to migrate data from competitor products to TFS, and I'm trying to find out which tools have the highest demand.  If you need a tool to integrate Subversion and TFS, for example, please reply to this post and let us know.  Or better yet, create a new item in the issue tracker so that others can vote on the tools they want to see developed.

I'm also thinking about how to encourage the community to work together to develop migration and synchronization tools.  Surely there is more than one person with a need for a SVN tool that is willing to develop it using the toolkit, so why not bring those heads together?

I'll start it off and open an issue for a SVN to TFS migration tool, and see where that goes.  Hopefully others will follow.

Typo in the last paragraph - the work item is for SVN to TFS, not TFS to SVN, although now that you've mentioned it, someone will likely put in a work item for that, as well :)

After looking at the toolkit I am pretty doubtful that you will find many takers on your offer. Writing a converter is a big job, and while there are lots of people in need of certain converters (I have heard PVCS, SVN and Harvest converters mentioned at least), why would someone be willing to invest month to convert data to TFS and then forget about it?

I for myself would like to encourage MS not to delegate everything to the community; while documentation in blogs and MSDN forums instead of formal MSDN is ok, the lack of supported converters (similar to VSS converter) is not. I do realize the effort required for that - but the ease of migration which sadly now is mostly lacking could be a big deal for some TFS implementations.

Yours truly,

Check out this new product by Kyrosoft @ www.kyrosoft.com called SVN-2-TFS which migrates SVN source control repositories to Team Foundation Server source control.

Second the request for CVS migration (knowing that the existing tool is poor by all accounts, I wasn't too impressed)

We used to use VisualSourceSafe till it got so annoying we migrated job lot to CVS (automated builds became vastly easier) I would really like to go back to VSTS (thus upgrading almost everyone from professional VS SKU to Team System) but unless I can easily migrate the repositories with confidence that isn't going to happen since the risk precludes such a high up front cost.
