Launch of Windows 7 Landing Page - Marks Release of the Windows 7 Power Management White Paper
Opening of Registration for Green IT Webcast Series on TechNet
TechNet Magazine published this special online-only Green IT issue for IT Pros yesterday evening.
The issue features a valuable collection of new and archived articles on energy efficient computing, including:
The release of the magazine not only coincides with Earth Day but, perhaps more importantly, the 1st anniversary of the monthly Sustainable IT online column in the magazine.
The issue compliments a separate Green IT publication released by Microsoft earlier this year for strategic architects: The Architecture Journal – Green IT Computing.
With the imminent release of Window 7 and it’s the expected high take-up following a number of excellent reviews by IT columnists, commentators and bloggers, and with Windows XP no longer benefiting from free support as it enters its extended support phase, now is the time to make sure your applications are ready for Microsoft’s latest version of Windows.
The Microsoft UK DPE ISV Team are running another of it’s very successful Application Compatibility Labs, where we have a very high success rate of taking applications that don’t work on Windows Vista or Windows 7 and making them compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. At out last lab in March every application that was tested in Windows 7 failed in some way, but at the completion of the lab every application worked with Windows 7 or it had been identified what needed to be done in order to make the application compatible.
Lab Format and Agenda
In order that we make the best use of your time and allow you to choose when to attend, we have broken-up the lab into two optional components.
Monday 11th May: Training Day on Windows 7 Application Compatibility – limited to 16 attendees with a maximum of 2 attendees per ISV
The training will begin promptly at 10:00am and registration will be available from 9:00am onwards.
During this 1 day briefing we will cover the major changes that may cause a application to be incompatible with Windows 7, including:
Tuesday 12th May – Friday 15th May: Windows 7 Application Compatibility drop-in clinic – limited to 20 attendees with a maximum of 2 attendees per ISV
The clinic will be open from 9:00am – 5:00am each day.
During these 4 days you may test, debug, and fix any application compatibility issues you may have with the assistance of Microsoft Application Compatibility experts. We will provide Windows 7 PC’s with SQL Express, Visual Studio, and a number of application compatibility debugging tools. We can also provide most other Microsoft software that you may need – please ask before attending.
Once you have your application up and running or you feel that you have got as much as you can out of the drop-in clinic feel free to leave, there is no compulsion for you to stay for the full 4 days. We can identify and fix most applications within 2 days, so you should allow up to 2 days if you wish to attend. We will be taking bookings for ISV’s for Tuesday/Wednesday and Thursday/Friday, right up until the day before the lab. So just feel free to call up and ask if there is space to come in and test your application of just to have a chat with the Application Compatibility experts.
All client applications are welcome, whether they are written in .NET, C++, VB6, etc. Please bring with you an installable version of your application(s) and the symbols (PDBs) if possible.
Please register for the 1-Day training and/or the drop-in clinic by calling Julie Greenleaf on 0118 909 5346 or email firstname.lastname@example.org

The Partners in Learning team have been working with MS Research for the past several months to make a FREE, full-product version of AutoCollage available ONLY on the UK Innovative Teachers Network. Anyone wishing to use AutoCollage for educational purposes can go to the UK ITN, register for a free username and password, and download their free copy of AutoCollage directly from the site. The UK ITN is currently the only location in the world with this offer.
We’ve blogged about this great offer on the UK Teachers blog today (Tuesday), and we encourage you to blog, email, shout or otherwise tell your customers about this great offer.
AutoCollage was brought to us by the amazing minds at Microsoft Research, who have taken advanced digital tapestry and facial recognition technologies to create a piece of software that automatically creates a collage of your digital photos.
We have been talking to teachers about AutoCollage for some time already (e.g. BETT), and we’ve begun to see the creative ways that this tool is being used to aid in storytelling exercises, portfolios of student work, and presenting new ideas, to name a few. The only problem to date has been that AutoCollage was only available free for 30 days, and after that required you to purchase a copy for every PC you wished to use it on.
That is…until now.
That’s right, the full product version of AutoCollage is now available ABSOLUTELY FREE for use in education from the Innovative Teachers Network. Our ITN is the only location in the entire world from which you can download AutoCollage for free. Now Educators and students can download copies of the software and begin using it right away to create images like this one, which was created from photos of the Vienna Innovative Teachers Forum.
It couldn’t be easier for you to download the software. Just go to the ITN and log in. (If you still haven’t registered, you’ll need to register – for free – to create a username and password, and then you can log in.)

For businesses and IT Pros in particular, this is the milestone where we encourage them to evaluate the product and see the advancements Windows 7 brings to user productivity, security, and PC management – all of which saves customers money.
For our partners, this milestone is about making sure they are ready to take full advantage of the opportunity that Windows 7 affords. The RC is a call to action for our partners worldwide to join the over 10,000 software and hardware companies who are already testing Windows 7 and building products on this platform (check out some of these partners at ReadySet7.com).
Based on the terabytes of feedback we’ve received from you and the millions of customers who tested Windows 7 Beta, we’re confident that Windows 7 is well-positioned to be a tremendous release.
