This didn't work for me...I still get this message:

You must install v2.0.40607 of the Common Language Runtime before installing Microsoft "Avalon" CTP.

...this happens when trying to UNINSTALL this package.

I'm with Mark. This is pissing me off, really. Nowhere do you get told you have to "uninstall in a specific order" until you try to install a newer release of WinFX. After that point, it's already too $&#@$*#@ late, as I /upgraded/ .NET first.

I was having the same problem

I used this tool to remove the old Avalon bits. I also ran the script for safe measure.
