See your screen more clearly

I use a Tablet PC so I'm looking at a pretty small monitor while I'm in meetings and working out of the office. (I hook up my Tablet PC to a larger monitor at my desk.) Anyway, I have had to settle for less than crisp text on my screen. A couple of months ago, though, I downloaded and installed Clear Type. I don't say this much, but I love it. It makes the text on my computer screen much clearer and helps me avoid straining my eyes. I've been told, although I can't confirm it, that it can even improve reading speed between 10 percent and 15 percent.

So what is ClearType? It's a software technology that improves the readability of text on Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) and makes the words on your computer screen look almost as sharp and clear as those printed on a piece of paper. Ive used ClearType in the past...and yes it definitely makes a big difference, even on an "old" CRT monitor (hasn't your mom told you not to sit so close to the TV? :-) style monitor)

I believe that clear type uses anti-aliasing to make the edges of fonts look smoother than they really are.  Be warned that this also makes them look out of focus.  I've known several users experience headaches using this (ClearType is on by default), and their headaches have gone after i've shown them how to turn ClearType off.

Now I always turn it off, especially on my laptop lcd screen.  I'd rather see a sharp image than a blured one thanks.

Like I said in my previous comment (which wasn't shown), ClearType gives some people headaches because it blurs the text.  It can strain your eyes because the picture looks constantly out of focus with 'ClearType' turned on.

To the microsoft sensorers: Don't you think this is a valid point?  I hope I don't read 'No Comments' on this page tomorrow.  If I do, then I won't be visiting this section of the microsoft site again, because unbalanced viewpoints are simply propoganda.  There are plenty of other places to discuss fairly.

Cleartype is not remotely usable for me, on my lcd the fonts on the desktop icons gets crisp and clear, most everything else blurs out so I can hardly look at it without getting a headache.
Especially the fonts on the taskbar is a nightmare, but everyone he's own preference.
