Visual Studio Team System 2008 -- Coming this Month

You've likely heard the new by now -- as Soma has said in his blog, Visual Studio 2008, and the corresponding .NET Framework 3.5, will ship this month (November).  You remembered to add Software Assurance to all of your Visual Studio 2005 purchases, right?  (If not, you cannot say I didn't warn you...)

Stay turned here for details on launch events, etc.  And as soon as I see VS2008 available via my MSDN Subscription, I'll let you know so the downloading joy can begin!

We've already committed to making the source code for the .NET Framework libraries available.  And now Soma goes and kicks it up a notch, announcing that premier VSIP customers will be able to access the source code for Visual Studio!  Pretty cool, and a great aid to anyone writing commercial Visual Studio plug-ins.

Soma also announced the removal of licensing restrictions such that partners can now extend Visual Studio to target other platforms.  This could lead to a very interesting and bright future for Visual Studio as the premier development IDE for all major platforms and languages; this adds to the growing story of Visual Studio Team System playing nicely in a cross-platform environment.

If I pay you a visit sometime over the next couple of weeks, anticipate that I'll be dropping off a good amount of VS2005 swag as I try to run out my inventory... :)
