Windows Mobile 6, what's new for developers?


Windows Mobile 6.0 has officially released.

New Naming conventions:
Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone --> Windows Mobile 6 Standard
Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition --> Windows Mobile 6 Professional
Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC  -> Windows Mobile 6 Classic

Windows Mobile SDK:
Windows Mobile 6 Standard SDK [Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone]
Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK [Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition and Pocket PC]
You use the Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK to develop applications for devices that have a touch screen, those devices historically called Pocket PC or Pocket PC Phone Edition.

Device Emulator 2.0, installed as part of the Windows Mobile 6 SDK, can provide a performance improvement of up to 40 percent over the Device Emulator 1.0.It adds many new device form factors, ex: 320x320-display form factor and you can now test the effects of power state changes on your application power state emulation in this new device emulator.

CabSignTool is an utility that you can use to sign a CAB file and all of the contained executable files at once.

Hopper, you can use this utility to stress test a single application or can be used to stress test several applications at one time incorporating

Local Server Framework is a tool that enables you to set up a virtual network and server that receives the network calls your application issues and returns back the results your program expects.

New features in .NET Compact Framework 2.0 like new controls (MonthCalendar and DateTimePicker Controls, web browser that support rich HTML-based display...)
