YAY!!!! I've been looking forward to trying out Windows Vista, looks like I'll be doing that this weekend. Thanks for your hard work!!

Btw, since I'm posting, might as well ask this. When you say 'develop native-apps', is that saying you'll be using the old Win32 API, VS using the WinFX one??

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

Mariano: The Windows SDK includes 7,000+ new functions for native (non .NET) development. WinFX is also a part of the Windows SDK.

Therefore, whether you're doing native or .NET development, you would download the Windows SDK. The main difference is that if you're doing native development only, you wouldn't download the WinFX Runtime Components or any of the Visual Studio extensions for WinFX development.

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I'd Tried Windows Vista and I think it's great1!!

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I'd Tried Windows Vista and I think it's great1!!

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I tried the 5308 Beta and had no luck running Outlook 2007 with it, do you think that problem has been addressed & fixed?

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

M Maner: I don't personally use the Office beta, but almost everyone on my team runs both the Vista and Office betas so the problems seem to have been ironed out. I experienced some grafical bugs and Vista drivers being incompatible (not very surprised since it's 64bit), also did not see any performance gain compared to 32bit(actually I think that it runs slower). Other than that I like most of the new features, though it seems that I need to click one or two more buttons to get there(very anoyed) and the only way to make the experience smooth is to disable some security features(which by the way brings security alerts to my taskbar that I also have to stop, making it imposible to monitor the rest of the security features you have built in). Media center on the other side let's you import media from shared drive, but does not let you specify folder inside, so I am forced to redefine my shared resources on my network so I don't import all the images located in program folders and others.
I'll keep testing and posting as I go. I have planned installs on different platforms(notebooks, celerons, onboard graphics and such) and it looks like I'll have to tweak the rest alot to make them somewhat fast.
I also tested on level 3 PC (P4 3.2/ 1GB/ Radeon9800Pro) and was not happy with default settings(graphics were slow)
Have fun testing....

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

Dear Sir,

I have downloaded the Vista beta 2 version. When I try to copy it to a dvd-r/+r/or +rw it tells me I have the wrong blank and requests a CD-R/RW. When I put the CDR in it says the block size is wrong to correct or ignore. I can only ignore before it will copy. It does finish the copy process.
I then can start the process of installing Vista. It gets all the way to asking for the Key and after I put it in it says that it cannot read the windows image file. I have tried different dvd burners, different cdr burners with both the x86 and 64 versions of the iso file with the same effect.
OK, I have set up several systems in my lab to test these beta versions. There is probably a very simple explanation as to why I am having trouble with this. Can anyone tell what it is?

WinFX is now .Net 3.0

The next version of Microsoft development framework that ships with Vista and has a down-level support...

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

where do we get driver support if the manufacturer doesn't
supply drivers?

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I installed Vista this weekend. Besides some driver issues with my wireless card and video card the install went very smoothly. The new environment looks really smooth. Is there an estimated dates for when drivers should be complete or is that completely up to the driver providers?

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

so far so good though sound ,updated by vista, is only working for some profiles and not others. side bar needs to be switched of then on after installing new or changing current programs in it.

This is going to be a blast!
Cheers Ue

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

so far so good though sound ,updated by vista, is only working for some profiles and not others. side bar needs to be switched of then on after installing new or changing current programs in it.

This is going to be a blast!
Cheers Ue

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

i keep geting error [80070241] trying to install vista beta 2 any help please

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

i need to see vista

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I want to see whats special in vista

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

Right On! No one can download it to their boxes for some odd reason...There are two general error codes that are coming up quite frequently that need to be addressed. I am well within the requirements myself to use the Beta product and I can't get it to install. Not to a bare drive, over XP Home or as a second partition. So, far.. I think it sucks. Work out the problems so others can see if they are going to like it. It would be nice to have a successful Beta for good comments. It won't let me install my camera, which is a Mercury, and about as generic as you can get. It doesn't like the drivers for it, and there's no newer ones. My other 2 biggies are 1) while I can install the printer all I want ( Lexmark X1100 series), I cannot use it because it cannot communicate with my computer for some reason. 2) Some apps that I run, and online stuff I use and go to require me to have Java environments installed. When I install it, I immediately run into a whole bunch of probs, the most irritating being that I suddenly lose ALL access to the net except msn messenger. While this works for my wife, for her chats, it does not work for me, as Java is needed. Can anybody out there help me figure out this problem? I'm in Kitchener, Ont., and I've already baffled a couple of local services here...any help would be appreciated, and in return, I can provide a good AntiVirus that works for Vista. I'm totally underwhelmed by this release. Performance was dragged down by the VESA graphics driver. My test system is stuck with the generic VESA driver because the manufacturer of the onboard graphics adapter has not released a driver for this OS. (A driver for XP_64 is available so why not one for Vista?) Since this is a Beta 2 and not an Alpha release I expected manufacturers would also have their drivers available for testing. If I had known the about the lack of hardware support I would not have wasted the time downloading this release.

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

its nice...amaizing
re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I tried installing Vista onto an external hard drive connected via USB port. I'm running ALL BRAND NAME HARDWARE such as Intel CPU and chipset, ATI, Creative, etc... you would think that after all these years, support for these devices should be standard out of the box even during a beta release. Its kinda like a Ford or Dodge pickup.. after all these years, you'd think they have gotten some of the bugs out. Why not concentrate on things that really matter instead of what color the task bar is. The installation took over 3 hours on a P4 3.4 GHz. If they don't build LOTS more hardware support and speed into this thing, its going to be a marketing flop for the end user. At least it was for me.

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I ordered Vista on DVD. it loaded great and works great with the exception of Norton Anti Virus 2006. It says it is not compatible. Is there anything I can do or do I need to try and find another AntiVirus software.

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I've been running vista ultimate beta 2 on my wifes pc and shes being using day in day out for surfing the web playing music and she has had no problems with it im very impressed with the visual style and features cant wait till it is released proper

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

Does installing Vista erase XP, or does it partition it or write over it? Have experienced a problem installing a printer but for now I am successfully printing over a network. Thought I had a strong computer but it seems a bit low end with Vista on board. On the plus side it works well, a bit buggy at times, security features are excellent and UI is slick a la Mac OSX but more complex and less friendly. The constant requests for permissions are a bit annoying but my Mac gives me the same grief so all is forgiven. All in all a great product.

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

vista is great. i am running it on a 1.8ghz laptop with 704mb of sys ram, with a 64mb vid card, (no aero :( ) and its running great, only problem ive had is media center/playing videos is crappy right now. besides that it runs super smooth for me, with 1 gb of ram i think it would run great, if u have under 700mb of ram it will run pretty slow as it uses 380-450mb of ram to just run depending on what u have loaded up

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

It's Best of all.
re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

Thank u for releasing it to public .

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

Anyone have a Product Key that you can email it to me, please? But, I was utterly frustrated to see that the MSOffice 2007 beta could not be installed. Installation starts smoothly but after some time it declares a error 1935.......... and the it starts rolling back. I tried several times and every time the same thing happens. The matter is reported thru' their problem reporting system and they are yet to submit any solution/update. Same thing happens about updating some of the updates.
Then, there seems to be quite a bit of problem of compatibility of legacy software. Under XP I never felt any problem with any of the earlier software. All the softwares. those were made for XP only, should have been compatible with Vista.
It seems that Microsoft wants that along with the Vista OS one should change the machine (if one wants to exploit the full potential of it) and application softwares. Look and feel are not the last thing; functioning only will show. As somebody commented that he will go in for Vista after may be two years or so.

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

i think that vista should work well in the 32 bit atrchetecture but will not work properly in the 64 bit architecture due to known issues both hardware & software related.

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

Hi,

Can you please help me in developing graphs and charts using WinFx june CTP.

Are their any tools for doing the same?

i have to create some charts using Avalon

Thanks in advance for help,

Regards,
Chandra Sekhar.

gchanduu@gmail.com
re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I could not find a way to get the product key, can someone send it to me on my email hasan.asad@hotmail.com.

re: Windows Vista Beta 2 Now Available to the Public!!

I would like to try Vista Beta 2, but I don't have a product key.
