“Got Speech” For Your Applications?

Speech enabled applications are quickly becoming an essential component of all application development. One of the things that I discovered is that Visual Studio.NET 2003 combined with the Speech Server SDK and the Speech Server Production environment enables applications to take advantage of speech within any .NET application. This message is starting to be heard across the country! If you want to see the code and learn more about Speech enabled development check out the upcoming Got Speech Day. Let’s see some code because we want to give away an Intel Speech Server Starter Kit for it!

Show Me the Code!!!

Here’s how the contest works:

  • All contest entries must be received by midnight April 15, 2005.
  • We are looking for any and all interesting sample applications that targets The Microsoft Speech Application SDK (SASDK) using Visual Studio .NET 2003.
  • You must live in the United States. (Sorry but it has to be!)
  • Extra points are given for creativity and usefulness. The application must do something interesting, unique, and creative. (Please no “Hello World” applications). The more creative and interesting the better the score.
  • Applications must be fully functional and can be games, business productivity solutions, recipe programs – the only limit is your imagination! Remember creativity counts! If you don’t have an idea here are a few to think about
    • System Auto Attendant
    • Speech Enabled Database Lookups
    • Speech Enabled Web Pages
  • You must provide all source code (Absolutely no commercial applications).
  • All sample applications must run within Visual Studio .NET 2003 with the Microsoft Speech Application SDK (SASDK) installed. The key is that you don’t need a speech server to enter the contest!

Use the free speech emulator and Visual Studio 2003 to get the Starter Kit!

What can I get?

The Speech Starter Kit ($995 Retail Value) includes:

§                                 Microsoft Speech Server 2004 Standard Edition, 180-day Eval Edition
Microsoft Speech Server 2004 combines Web technologies, speech processing services, and telephony capabilities into a single, integrated product. Speech Server lets companies unify their Web and telephony infrastructure and extend ASP.NET applications for speech-enabled access from a variety of devices.

§                                 Intel Dialogic® D/41JCT-LS Combined Media Board
This four-port, analog, converged communications board is fully compatible with the Microsoft Speech Server and supports voice, fax, and software-based speech recognition processing in a single PCI slot. It includes Intel Dialogic Continuous Speech Processing Technology, a set of firmware features optimized to support high-performance, speech-enabled applications.

§                                 Intel NetMerge® Call Manager
This telephony interface manager (TIM) is a software module that provides fast and easy integration of the Microsoft Speech Platform with the D/41JCT-LS telephony board.

§                                 Intel Dialogic System Release Drivers
This package includes all the necessary drivers for the telephony boards as well as a suite of installation, configuration, and diagnostic utilities that can further simplify telephony server development. It also contains an abridged version of
SR 6.0.

All entries received will be posted as samples. Your applications will help others and spread the word of the power of the speech enabled applications!

How do I win? – It’s simple:

The judges will review and score all entries using a combination of how the sample exploits features of the Speech Application SDK. All applications will be judged and validated using Visual Studio .NET 2003 and the Speech Application SDK. Remember - Creativity and the usefulness of your application is the key to winning!

Once the judging is completed the top application receives the Intel Starter Kit. Additionally, we may have some additional prizes but only those who show the code are eligible!

Do you want the Starter Kit? Then “show me the code”!!!

How do you submit you application?

Submit your application by sending an email that contains the following items.

  • Name, Phone Number, and email address
  • A screen shot of your application running within the emulator. Creativity and usefulness are given the highest grading weight so make sure your screen shot or picture showing the most interesting feature of your application.
  • Maximum of a 250 word description of your application.
  • Attach all code in a compressed file. Make sure that you include all source code so that we can run it.
  • Sorry but any incomplete contest entry will not be considered.

Help spread the word! Tell your family, friends, loved ones and others and get them to write some code!

Show the code and you could win the Speech Server Starter Kit!

>You must live in the United States.

Why? Canada has the same telephony standards as the U.S.
