Customizing the VS 2005 IDE

Question: I have been playing with the VS 2005 beta 2 and been enjoying it. It’s pretty obvious that it has some really great features. One of the things that I noticed was the changes in the start page. I had heard that it could be customized based on an RSS feed. Although, I can’t seem to find how this can be done. Do you happen to know?

Answer: The Start page within Visual Studio 2005 is actually controlled as part of the System options and you are right – it is RSS aware. Within the start page the following highlighted is based on an RSS feed and be changed.

To customize the start page follow these steps.

  1. Select Tools – Options – Startup options

  1. Instead of pointing at the standard feed. You can change it to a valid RSS as shown below.

 

  1. Once this done and the refresh interval occurs the page changes to the following
