I can see there is a lot of performance counters to access through perfmon, but is the same set of counters also available under WMI? what is the pros nad cons considering each interface to extract performance counters?

thanks,

Reza

[tony's reply]

They should all show up under WMI. However some starting wiht % appear not to show up. This looks like a perfmon 2.0 bug.

If you use WMI remotely then you are adding network load. Locally you are adding cpu load.

For our perf testing we run it locally and log to a disk not used by any VM's.

re: Hyper-V Performance FAQ

Great posts Tony.

Which is your position about running management services in the root partition?

You say the root partition should be as clean as possible but in an enterprise environment we need at least:

- hardware monitoring agents (HP IM, Dell OM, IBM Director ecc.)

- OpsMgr agent (monitor, perf collection, alerting, hw faults reporting)

- ConfigMgr agent

- Antivirus/malware agent

- DPM agent

Thanks

Daniele
