Welcome!

I guess this is by now an established tradition. The first post on a new blog that always tells you a little bit about the author, their motives for setting up the blog, what to expect, and a link to a joke.

So - perhaps the joke link isn't that common. But wouldn't it be nice if it was?

Here we go then:

Who's writing this blog?  Easy one. I'm one of a small team of software developers and marketing professionals who work for Microsoft in the UK. On a day-to-day basis we help academics and their students get familiar with our developer tools and other technologies - be that at work or at play! We've even got a web site

Who is this blog for? Strictly the contnet will be aimed at academics who teach, and for the system administrators who support them.  Saying that, I'm sure there'll be content here that others will find useful - we probably have the broadest technology remit in the company: from games development to the Windows source code, from C# through to CRM.  So, pro devs and technology enthusiasts - you're welcome to tune in!

Of course, if you're a student, you've got your own playground here. But I won't tell if you sneak a subscription to this site either :)

Why this blog? Quite simply, there's so much going on in the Academic space in Microsoft that I need some way to let the world know about it in an orderly fashion.  Given that most of the content of the blog will be non-personal (you really don't want to know what I had for tea, or what my goldfish is called), this will be a team blog, with a low signal:noise ratio.

Oh, go on then - here's a good one.

Anyway - come back regularly, or better still subscribe!

Andy
