In this webcast we will answer our partners’ questions around value and TCO, by walking you through the model and giving you a demonstration of how the TCO tool works so you can build your own cost savings case for Windows Azure

OFF59PAL: Customer Offers and Channel Incentives Monthly Webcast

Presented by: Michael Moore

Webcast Date:11/13/2009

Webcast Start Time: 11:00 AM (Pacific)

PLC Registration Link for Partners

Level: 100

Partner Audience: Partner Sales

Join us each month for a review of in-market customer offers and channel incentives and also get a preview of promotions and incentives launching within the next month. This webcast will cover offers and incentives for Enterprise Agreement, Select, Select Plus, Open Value, Open License, and other relevant promotions. Recommended for sales and marketing roles.

BRD02PAL: Viruses, Spyware, and Malware

Presented by: Stephen Deming

Webcast Date:11/17/2009

Webcast Start Time: 10:00 AM (Pacific)

PLC Registration Link for Partners

Level: 100

Partner Audience: Partner Sales

A few years ago it was a few simple SPAM messages with an occasional “I Love You” virus tossed in for variety. Case in point is Microsoft's Vista successor, which has sold so well that it has beaten the Amazon UK pre-order record previously held by J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In fact, Windows 7 was able to tally up more sales in the first 8 hours of pre-order availability than Vista was able to collect altogether. Now that's what we call an upgrade.

Windows 7 School Deployments

I pinched this article from Ray's Schools Blog at: http://blogs.msdn.com/ukschools/

Windows 7 became available to schools in mid-August 2009, uncomfortably close to the start of the new school year. Although there was every encouragement from Microsoft for schools taking the plunge, it’s difficult to avoid the conclusion that those ICT teams that grasped the nettle were displaying a fair amount of courage. The start of a school term, after all, isn’t a moveable deadline.

Whether the new operating system was installed or not, whether or not it worked, or did what was printed on the tin, the students, teachers and administrators were still going to arrive and switch on their machines expecting to do pick up where they left off before their holidays. Failure, as they say, was not an option.

These are the first two paragraphs from Gerald Haigh’s article about the experiences of the early schools using Windows 7 in the UK. After just two weeks of term time, he went out to talk to half a dozen schools for us, and record their stories. Gerald normally spends his time split between writing books for school leaders, and leadership focused articles for educational publications. But given his ability to dive straight in and ask the right questions, it made sense to ask him to talk to these early adopters.

The resulting document, which you can download from my SkyDrive, gives you a clear idea of the thoughts of those schools, and why they chose to make such an early start on Windows 7.

The Software Development Kit has been around for a while and made available to publishers and content developers for evaluation. The kit is available to download from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d22204fc-ab74-4d99-a5bd-bd56b32ff59f&DisplayLang=en

Development of the ‘assembly’ and ‘assessment’ parts of Microsoft Semblio are well advanced and so after several years of talking about it, the product is nearly ready. So, to help partners prepare for Semblio and Office 2010 we are hosting an event at the Microsoft offices in Cardinal Place near Victoria to showcase these new products and the opportunities they present for partners.

We are still finalising the agenda, but we are expecting representatives of the Education Product Group to be in attendance to talk about and demonstrate the products they’ve developed. In addition we hope to have third party examples of learning resources created using Semblio as well as beta code for partners to take away for further evaluation. To get more information on Semblio and its capabilities go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/learningspace/semblio/

Event Details

Date: Thursday Nov 19

Time: 10:00 – 15:00

Location: Cardinal Place, Victoria, London

Attendees: Publishers, Content Developers, VLE and Learning Platform partners

Registration details will be available shortly, but in the meantime please reserve the date.

Virtualisation Resources and Cost Savings

Following the successful Virtualisation training for Education Partners on Tuesday of this week, here are additional resources to help partners win opportunities and compete against VMware. The Virtulaisation opportunity for Microsoft Partners can be found at:

http://cid-2fbbe67743d5177d.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Virtualisation

Presentations:

Presentations from the event can be found via the link below. There are three files on the share which might be useful to partners:

Partner opportunity

Competing with VMware, this is actually a full detailed deck from the VMware analysis course, containing the areas & pricing Matt covered.

System Center – more details on roadmap for system center

All you need is to use your live ID to log on (standard MS passport – not linked to partner programme).

http://cid-b5d68861f0d690b0.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public?uc=1&isFromRichUpload=1

Comparative Pricing:

A major competitive advantage for Partners are the cost savings to be made from the adoption of Microsoft Virtualisation technologies such as Hyper-V which is included within Windows Server 2008 R2 at no additional cost. There are a number of resources worth looking at:

ROI Tools

There are two calculators you may find useful. The first tool will produce a PowerPoint and Word document – which can be very helpful in creating collateral and information for presentation and proposals etc. This also contains a competitive comparison – which shows Microsoft versus a “competitor”.

www.vmware.com/go/calculator

There is a word of caution – with these tools you can do a very like for like comparison, however, the inputs aren’t quite identical. So for example on the MS calculator if you say you will virtualise 50 applications – it adds in time and resource to migrate 50 apps (so this will need to be removed if you want to compare apples for apples). Whereas the VMware calculator only factors in moving the VM’s. So you’ll need to ensure you are actually comparing like for like.
