My first post...
Well, I finally got around to joining the world of bloggers. I'm a consulting architect with Microsoft Consulting Services in Sydney. My key interest areas are architecture (surprise surprise), Web Services and BizTalk. I work a lot with organisations trying to develop SOAs (I know, almost a cliche now, but I think the basic idea has a lot of merit.). I've worked with BizTalk and Web Services for quite a while now, and delivered quite a few BizTalk implementations, going right back to 1999. I know the product didn;t ship until 2000, but back then we used to use a toolkit for VB, which produced code that allowed you to send BizTalk style documents and send them from clients to server.
Next, I ended up writing some of the original BizTalk training, and a whitepaper. (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnbiz/html/btsorch.asp). Since then, I've done a few more (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnbiz2k2/html/bts_wp_net.asp, and http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnpag/html/EAppInt.asp). Then recently I had a great time working with David Trowbridge, Gregor Hohpe, Dragos Manolescu and others working on the Integration Patterns book (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnpag/html/intpatt.asp).
This brings me (finally) to the topic of my first post. I'm giving a talk at a conference in a few weeks, about Migrating an Enterprise to SOA. Over the next few weeks, I'll develop my presentation here on this blog. I want the talk to reflect some of the issues and problems experienced as you try to migrate an enterprise to SOA, the various stages of the migration (I call these crawl, walk and run), and other pertinent bits. I'm hoping some people read this, and contribute their comments, gripes etc. I'll be interested to hear of your experiences.
Til later...
