About Alok

Alok Srivastava has been working in various areas of software and systems for upwards of 17 years. After graduating from Indian Institute of Technologies, Kanpur Alok took interest in distributed and scalable systems and optimization techniques. Alok received his Masters degree and Advanced Mathematics and Computer Science from University of Louisville, Kentucky. His Masters research was focused on Distributed Operating Systems, Genetic algorithms, Video-on-demand delivery systems and multimedia communications. Alok worked on some very interesting projects to develop internet based chat and sharing systems at the time when only Email was known as information sharing method and Internet was still in research labs. In his professional career, Alok has worked on several large scale projects from concept to delivery and in this process he has filed over a dozen patents (Four of these have been granted and others are still being processed). He has authored many papers published in several reputed technical journals (IEEE, ACM and more) as well as several conference proceedings. Alok has presented at several leading Industry conferences and has been a member of several standards committees. Alok has done pioneering work in the area of Web Services with an early project called Dynamic Services. This project has helped lay down the foundation work to establish Web Services standards, governance, monitoring and billing. Alok has worked on several large scale projects including distributed monitoring and management systems, parts of large scale commercial database system, content distribution networks, enterprise portal features (Portlets and content management), application integration and SOA enablement technologies. He also worked as a key member of strategy team working on Collaboration Platform strategy, features, architecture and design. He has lead an R&D teams working on Semantic technologies in Collaboration environments and real-time communication approaches. Some of Alok’s key projects are: Replication Server Management in multi-server environment, Database Extensibility, Multi-media management in RDBMS, Location based services, Web Services gateway, Web clipping, Syndication Server, UDDI Server, Integrated Collaboration Services an Collaboration platforms. During his career, Alok has worked as technology advisor to many large and small companies. Some of his advisory work includes working with CTO of world’s largest automaker to enable integration of their part’s database with their partners, analyst research distribution network with monitoring, management and monetization for global reach and collaboration enabled business solutions for a large construction company and a large drug maker. Alok has also worked as a technical advisor and CTO for a small startup focused on Sales Optimization product. He helped this company establish their core development team and get first round of funding. Alok has also worked with Health Care, Life Sciences, Education and Insurance industry in various advisory/product roles. Alongside his technical work and achievements, Alok has substantial experience in managing multiple project teams with very talented members. His has managed geographically distributed teams, multiple projects and matrix-managed teams for several years. He has also managed a team of principle program managers to drive a new product entering a mature technology space. Alok is an energetic individual who loves to tackle new challenges, help customers and partners and take on responsibilities and drive projects to success. Outside of software areas, Alok loves o work with machines, robots and cameras. Photography and architecture (buildings) are some of his many interests.
