2009 is the 25th anniversary of Microsoft Press! To celebrate their b-bay they’re giving away two free e-books, namely

Before opening one of the links make sure that you disable your Pop-Up blocker as the window containing the book will be opened in a new window. Additionally, when the new window gets opened give it some time to show the content as the VB book is roughly 8MB and the Windows Small Business Server book is around 24MB.

To download the book click "Page >> Save As..." and rename the download in the Save window.

Get them as soon as the offer lasts (April 22nd) :-)

Daniel

Edited April 22, 2009: Included the last section on "How to download the ebooks".

I can't download the book after registering - simply loops back to the "Congrats!" page instead of to libredigital...

Hi Steve,

sorry for the trouble. I just tried again and it worked for me. A couple of things which hopefully help...

* Did you turn off your Pop-Up blocker for the download? The download for the book gets opened in a new window and the original page gets redirected to MS Press afterwards.

* It takes some time for the newly opened window to show the content as the VB book is roughly 8MB and the Windows Small Business Server book is around 24MB so be patient when you see a blank window.

If this doesn't help please mail me at daniel.walzenbach@microsoft.com and I'll make the books available for you to download on a different share.

Hope this helps and again - sorry for the trouble!

Thanks!

Any chances on giving the C# book also ??

Daniel,

Either click the save button on toobar or choose file ->save as to save.

if nothing else works then chk in temporary internet files, sort it with pdf type, you will see the pdf file there..

No way to save the VB 2008 book. There is no Save As button.

# Walzenbach said on April 21, 2009 1:56 PM:

Larry , Vinod, John,

you can save the book by clicking on Page > Save As... (in IE).

Please let me kno wif that helps! If it doesn't please mail me at daniel.walzenbach@microsoft.com and I'll make the books available for you to download on a different share.

Larry Vinod and John are correct. The book, once opened on the site, does not allow you to save, whatsoever. (Even if I click on Page > the "Save As" feature is greyed out.

I tried to download the code samples at http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/companion/9780735625419/ .  I clock on the dowhnload code samples and am greeted with a screen of lovely random characters.

Can someone assist?

Tnx!

Tim,

I just tried the link you posted and it worked fine for me (http://blogcasts.de/dwalzen/blog/VB2008Express_CodeSamples.png). I'd suggest that you give it another try and if it still doesn't work for you shoot me a mail at daniel.walzenbach@microsoft.com and I'll send you the demos. Deal?

Thanks!
