Channel 9: George Mileka and Ben Anderson - Everything you wanted to know about VC++ deployment but were afraid to ask

Hello

Charles Torre of Channel 9 recently got together with George Mileka (Libraries Dev VC++) and Ben Anderson (Libraries QA VC++) to discuss the issues around deploying the Visual C++ libraries onto customer machines.  They discussed many important facets, such as the current set of options, when they should be used, the caveats around them, as well as what the team is thinking for the future. Find this very interesting Channel 9 video here but be warned it is another long one (over 50 minutes.)

Thanks

Does it answer the one thing I *really* want to know but am afraid to ask?

Doesn't it strike *anyone* from Microsoft as problematic that they've made deployment so complex that they have to make a friggin' C9 video explaining it?

How is that an improvement over "DLL hell"? You still have to jump through hoops to get your app deployed correctly. Even if the hoops have been formalized slightly (and I'm not even sure if that can be said to be the case), it's still ridiculously complex for what should be laughably trivial.

People obviously still get it wrong en masse (otherwise this video wouldn't have been made), so what has actually improved?

*That* is what I want to know about VC++ deployment.
