Now the folks who can't run VPC on XP Pro x64 have an affordable MS alternative, at least for dev & testing or as an unsupported scenario.

Is that the upgrade from R1 price, or is it the full version for a fresh customer price?

Any chance Virtual Server will be available through the MSDN Academic Alliance? It would be very useful for setting up lab assignments.

thanks

On a totally unrelated note, Australia qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany for the first time in 32 years

Hows Fifa 2006 run under Virtual PC? :)

VMWare are giving their player away for free. This is particularly useful in QA environments where before you would have to buy dozens of copies of VPC/VMWare (one for each host machine). Now you can buy just a few for the people who make the images, and the majority of the testers can just use the player.

I am very grateful that Microsoft helped improve the pricing for virtualization products :-)

# VMWare

VS was always way-way less than VMWare ESX, now it is impossible to ignore if you don't need VMotion or the Virtual Center GUI. ESX still has a reputation of being more mature and stable though ... but maybe that is not true anymore with R2.
