Upgraded to SP1 and the virtual server service couldn't start (said "unknown error" in the log). Tried uninstall & reinstall. No luck.

Tried going back to R2 golden - service started; vms started; none of the VMs could see the net. In fact, no network adapters are enumerated in client VMs (as seen in dev mgr), though they are listed in the .VMC. Remove/re-add VM; no change. Remove/re-add net adapters on admin console. No change.

If anyone's got any ideas; let me know, because I really don't want to wipe & reload the host OS.

No. The shared components are almost identical.

Tim Jackson -

That is on my queue of blog posts to do.

Alex Simenduev -

Not sure what is happening there. I would recommend that you contact Microsoft product support.

Jesse -

We will upgrade to 'Enterprise' - that is the only version that exists now.

Danny -

What happens if you just try to uninstall you current copy of Virtual Server first?

Rob -

Not sure what is happening there. I would recommend that you contact Microsoft product support.

amantia -

No, it only supports 32-bit virtual machines.

CRathjen -

Yes, many.

Cheers,

I can get the VS Admin site to come up, but can't create a VM or can't access and Server Properties like Search Path or Virtual Server Scripts. All i get is "Virtual Server's configuration information could not be retrieved. The configuration value could not be retrieved. User does not have suffcient access rights." I have given my user ID Full Control to C:\Program Files\MS Virtual Server....any ideas??

I am equally interested in the backup process for Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1. Will we be able to backup the VMs without shutting them down? I need a way to back them up and transport offsite to afford us protection from a fire or theft. I will watch for your blog post.
