Ferrari 4000 test drive (after one week)

Almost a week that I run Windows XP Professional x64 Edition on the Ferrari 4000 now. So far I do not have any complaints. The fan never stops even though it is only moving cold air. And I gave up on the Bluetooth mouse. It does not respond well to movements. The pointer sometimes doesn’t move at all or it takes a few seconds until the mouse wakes up and the pointer starts working again. BTW, same on 32-bit.
Below a list of apps (all 32-bit) I’ve used so far:
Microsoft:
Office Suite
Digital Image Suite 2006
Office Communicator (VoIP currently not supported)
Messenger 7
Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2
Media Encoder
Mappoint 2004 (US and Europe)
3rd party:
Camtasia Studio 2
Cyberlink PowerDVD 5
X-Lite from Xten (VoIP softphone)
SWISHmax from SWISHZone (for creating flash animations)
Gurunet
Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0
Shipping with the system:
Launch Manager
NTI CD & DVD-Maker 7
Ferrari screensaver
All 64-bit drivers can be downloaded from Acer’s servers in Europe or APAC.
I do not recognize any difference in performance. Sometimes it feel like apps respond faster do things faster than on 32-bit. But this is just a gut feeling. I have not used any 64-bit applications yet. I expect to have some 64-bit video animation software for testing soon.
The build of 64-bit Longhorn client I tried worked like a charm on this powerful laptop machine. I could not get the WLAN driver to work, actually the box hung whenever I tried to enable the wireless LAN. Video performance and overall system response is great. I am tempted to re-install 64-bit Longhorn and try to use it daily. If only the wireless stuff would work.
