IDE Team Looking for "App Building" Ideas

Its getting about that time when product groups realize they just aren't going to squeeze in all the cool ideas they were looking into for the current release. At the same time the product is starting to become stable enough that it can be used to extend itself in meaningful ways.

It is with these two things in mind that the IDE team is looking for opinions on what extensions they should be working on.  These guys are the same ones that did a lot of work on the original VS Powertoys so I'm sure they will do a good job. Thanks! Josh

1. It should be possible to change the language within the page, by some comiler directive (like what Delphi does)

2. There should be better wizards to make the projects. As in case Web Development, the Starter Kit should be built into it.

Also, I feed, instead of many Starterkits like portal, commerce, reports etc. there shoould be only one integrated starter kit with option to add any of the component as an add-on to some basic site. Infact all the developers in the world should be operating on only one Application (that to only one page say default.aspx). This will eleminate the duplication of work.

Also, with asp.net MS has started standardisation like /bin directory and now in 2.o /code and other pre-detremined directories. The Idea should be expanded to starter kits etc also as explained above

In addition to creating executables that run on Windows platforms, also add support for the creation of executables that will run on Apple OS X platforms.

How about adding an API viewer in the IDE, like the one we have in VB6.

How about adding a context menu item in the code window to quickly add comments to the line or the function / procedure, class declaration. Maybe you could enhance this for documentation too.

I know that there is going to be a code snippet for connecting to the database, how about having a parameterized quickfire connection string + code snippet kind of a thing for connecting to various types of databases, so that there is no time wasted in typing the connection string and its all visually done regardless of whether the server, driver is configured / available or not ( the developer should definitely be knowing that it is isn't it?).

Any chance of some work on any version of VoIP or H.323 communications?

It would be nice if there were a sample application that communicated between the desktop PC and a WiFi enabled Pocket PC device (Microsoft Mobile 2004).

Thanks for the chance to add a request.

Add a way to browse classes like the class view but when you click on one method, properties... you see only this method in the editor.

A simple mechanism to separate the documentation from the source code.

A kind of documentation designer for source code file.

And if it comes with extendable architecture it will be a plus i.e. provide a standard interface to write backend store, hence collect all the documentation at center place and author be able to take it from there.
