Q&A: Runtime Redistributable Follow-Up Question

Q: A customer asks...what is the purpose of the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the Microsoft Office System runtime redistributable? Isn't an install of the .NET Framework 2.0 all that is required to run VSTO 2005 solutions?

A: The runtime redistributable is a set of classes that enable new VSTO 2005 features such as host controls, the actions pane, and data binding. The VSTO 2005 runtime must be installed on a computer before solutions created with VSTO 2005 will run. The VSTO 2005 runtime is not part of the .NET Framework 2.0, and must be installed separately.
