Q&A: VSTO 2005 and .NET Framework 2.0 - Redistributables

Q: A customer asks...why is the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office runtime redistributable not included as part of the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 runtime redistributable?

A: Providing a separate Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office runtime redistributable from the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 runtime redistributable allows the Visual Studio Tools for Office development team at Microsoft to rapidly innovate on (and rapidly support) its VSTO 2005 product and accompanying features more quickly, without needing to queue up their development requests with the .NET Framework development team.
