Presentation: Data Binding to Relational Data

In this presentation, I show how to use the new Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 GUI data tools to bind data in an SQL Server to managed and host controls on your Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office document. You will see how easy it is to drag and drop a table or even a stored procedure from a data source onto an Excel worksheet, and then add controls to the Document Actions task pane to navigate through the data. You will also see how to display XML data in XMLNode host controls on a Word document.

Presentation: Working with Managed Controls

In this presentation, I describe the managed controls that are available for use on Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Excel documents. Included in the presentation is a demonstration showing how to add the controls to your document at design time and run time, a discussion of the main considerations to keep in mind when you use Windows Forms controls on Office documents, and an example of hosting custom controls on documents.

Presentation: Working with Word Host Controls

The VSTO team held a developer lab at the end of February where we delivered several presentations on the features of Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the Microsoft Office System. We’ve created video presentations of the content delivered in the labs that we’ll be posting to this blog over the next several weeks. In this presentation, I describe the host controls that are available for use on a Word document, how to add the controls to your document at design time and run time, and the differences that exist between a Bookmark control and the underlying interop object.
