Video Demo: Importing an Outlook Form Region into Visual Studio

This 4-minute video demonstrates creating a form region in Outlook with controls that are bound to Outlook data, and then importing the form region into a Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 Outlook add-in project.

After the form region is in Visual Studio, you can add managed code to handle the events, but the data is still coming from Outlook. If you create the entire form region from scratch in Visual Studio, you can't bind the controls to Outlook data.

Videos That Demonstrate VSTO 2005 SE Tasks

There's a new type of technical article on MSDN called "Visual How Tos." These articles feature videos that show how to perform specific tasks, and they include short written articles with code samples or links to code samples and other examples in the documentation.

Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition has six Visual How Tos right now, and by the time you read this, there will probably be more! We have a schedule to publish at least one each week through June, and probably beyond. Here are the first six:

Video Tutorial: Customizing a Ribbon in Access with VSTO “v3”

In this demonstration, I show you how you can create a VSTO "v3" add-in for Microsoft Office Access that customizes the Ribbon. You’ll find a new item called Ribbon Support that you can use to add a Ribbon class and XML file to your project. By default, this Ribbon class includes some code that creates a new tab, group and button to the Ribbon, and also a method that displays “Hello World” when you click the button.

Next, I show you how you can add a bitmap image to the Ribbon. This video is 7.5 minutes long, and can be viewed at Demo 3: Customizing the Ribbon for Access. Note that this demo has a file size of about 5 MB.

Video Tutorial: Creating a VSTO "v3" Add-In

In this demonstration, I show you how you can create a VSTO "v3" add-in for Microsoft Office PowerPoint. The add-in displays a message box whenever PowerPoint is opened or closed, and there is additional code to manipulate the background and text on each new slide that is added to the presentation. This video is 6.5 minutes long, and can be viewed at Demo 2: Creating an Add-in for PowerPoint. Note that this demo has a file size of about 4.5 MB.

Video Tutorial: Creating a VSTO "v3" Custom Task Pane

In this demonstration, I show you how you can create an application-level custom task pane in Microsoft Office Excel. The task pane contains a MonthCalendar control and button, and enables you to insert a date into your current selection within a worksheet. Once this add-in is loaded, any workbook you open will have access to this custom task pane. This video is 5 minutes long, and can be viewed at Demo 1: Creating a Custom Task Pane. Video Tutorial: How to Set the Flag Icon for E-Mail Items in Your Outlook Inbox that Have Attachments

This demonstration shows you how to use the new Microsoft Office Outlook add-in project feature in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the Microsoft Office System to set the flag icon for e-mail items in your Outlook Inbox that have attachments.
