Draft of Process Planning Guide
Hi, my name is David and I'm a programmer/writer on the Visual Studio Team Foundation team. I was recently asked to write a guide for administrators that would help them take into consideration the role of process when planning a new Team Foundation server, or when creating a new team project. Each team project can use a different process, and which process you choose determines the reports, queries, areas, iterations, and other settings for a team project.
Currently Beta 2 of Visual Studio Team System has one process template named MSF for Agile Software Development. When Visual Studio Team System releases, there will also be an MSF for CMMI Process Improvement available. Furtheremore, there will be process templates available from 3rd parties, and organizations will also customize and create their own process templates for internal use. Obviously the process is going to play a large part when planning team projects.
To address this area, I've posted a draft of the guide named Process Planning Guide. The goal of this planning guide is to help administrators and anyone responsible for creating team projects (such as project managers) understand key considerations before setting up a new Team Foundation server or creating a team project. I'm very curious to hear your feedback on this guide.
Specifically I"m curious to know:
- Is it missing any considerations?
- Do you think it is helpful for planning a new Team Foundation server or team project?
- Does it adequately explain the role of process templates in relation to Team Foundation servers and team projects?
- Does the Planning the Team Project section make sense? Is it missing anything, or would you recommend a different approach?
Please offer your questions, comments, or suggestions.
Thanks!
