After much hard work from British Library, Armadillo Systems, F5 Networks, PIPEX and Microsoft, Turning the Pages 2.0 is now live!

TTP gives us all the ability to view treasured and priceless books, including the first atlas of Europe and 2 of Leonardo Da Vinci's notebooks!!

The application can be run in XP and in Vista. You'll need to download .NET 3.0 if you're running Vista.

The truly awesome web application can be found here: http://ttpdownload.bl.uk

The default behaviour of SQL Server Management Studio is to allow a user with a valid logon to see the list of databases. Here is a post on how to change this behaviour.

I've received a few questions on modifying the trust config to allow .net applications to call web services in a 'medium trust' shared environment. A detailed explanation on how to do this can be found here.

If you haven't already checked this out then you need to. This gets me excited about the future of the web. I can't wait till every site looks like this :)

Well I've been in and out of the country for the past couple of weeks. Hectic times means I haven't been updating my blog but don't worry, there's more to come....

A fellow hosting evangelist Mario Briana has posted some good tips on how to secure asp.net applications in a hosting environment. Check it out!

I watched these a while ago but I forgot to put it up here. Be sure to check out these web hosting webcasts on IT's Showtime.

I'm currently investigating how to scale Dot Net Nuke. From my initial research, DNN looks like a real memory eater.

If anyone reading this post is hosting a large amount of DNN sites, I'd love to know how many sites you have and what setup you're using? Feel free to drop me an email.

While poking around on TechNet IT's Showtime I came across this great webcast by Bill Hilf. Bill gives a good insight into OSS and it's definitely worth a look.

I managed to secure tickets to Kanye Wests' London concert back in December and oh man was it worth the wait.

Kanye demonstrated last night that he isn't just another MC but instead he is a true showman. I loved the fact that he didn't have a bunch of hype men running around with him on stage; he alone rocked the mic.

Highlight for me was 'Gold Digger', what a great song!! The sell-out crowd went crazy, you could hardly hear Kanye.

Now if only I can generate that much crowd enthusiasm in my events...

Edit. Just got an email about the misspelling :P Cheers!

I saw this on Slashdot, it has to be seen to be believed!

I can't wait for this kind of technology to become mainstream. It's been so long since we've had a new input device....

In case you're looking for more information regarding SQL hosting outside of the Windows-based Hosting Solution, have a look here.

By default, IIS 6 will return a 404 error when it receives a request for a undefined MIME type.  The reasoning behind this is to provide difficulty to someone trying to understand which MIME types are supported by the web server.

However, lets say you only allow static files (HTML) by default for your web sites and if the customer wants dynamic files (ASP) they have to request the functionality in a control panel or something similar. Your customer would upload the ASP file and when trying to view it, they would receive a 404 error. Then your customer would think they've uploaded their ASP file to the wrong location and they would contact support.

A workaround for this is to edit the 404.3 error message for the web site or even at a global level to say 'you haven't enabled dynamic content, please click here to do so'.  For instructions on how to do this, please check out this article.

Otherwise if you don't have that concern, best to leave it as it is!

Well the second beta for IE7 has just been released and I have to say it's pretty sweet. You can get yourself a copy by going to here. For you developers out there this would be a great time to start testing for compatibility. One thing worth noting is IE7 will be running in 'Protected Mode' on Vista which may cause problems for some web sites. Please visit this MSDN article for a detailed explanation of IE7 'Protected Mode'.

So now I've dedicated an hour each morning to update my blog and to look at various forums. If there are any hosting related topics you want to hear about please feel free to email me and I'll do my best to put it in my blog.

So where can I get information regarding Windows hosting you say? Well you just need to go to http://www.microsoft.com/serviceproviders/hosters.mspx.

You will need to register to gain access to the documentation but it's definitely worth doing!!

At this site you'll find the Microsoft Solution for Windows-based Hosting v3.5 and the Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration v3.5. More information regarding these solutions will be posted soon!
