Hi Mell,

i live in Bulgaria, Europe. How can i use this Mobile Live Search? There is no data for Europe or any other continent!? And my question is not only how can i use it, but how can i add this kind of data for my town here in Bulgaria or for all country. I have this data in my PC, but is there any way to add missing data for other continents and countries, other than US and UK in Live Mobile Search?

This is great...I've always said that this is the killer app for the WM6 platform. Thank you!

I am not sure if this is the place to post this, but as a WM6 Smartphone/Live Search user I have always wanted to see inetgration with addresses. The phone is good at recognizing phone numbers and hot linking them so I can click and dial, why not for addresses as well? That would be very convenient!

It works on WM2003, WM5, and WM6, but it only have maps and other services for US and UK. All other contries? I think Microsoft doesn't have so much potentiality to cover all world with all world cinema's or local busineses and is important people to have chance to create personalized maps itself - and to share with all other world - this is the only chance to cover all world in this nice services from Microsoft.

I have a rather annoying issue using this application with a Dopod C730 in the US. When I attempt to type in an address that uses keys that can also be used as numbers using the Fn key, it shows the number instead of the letter. The input mode is set to ABC. Everything on the device is localized for English (United States) on this Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard device.

I have the same issue that BQ raises: I have a Dopod C730 set to US English and the keys associated with Fn+Number will not type the associated primary character, will only type the number, no matter that text entry is set to ABC mode.

Yes, I too have a Dopod C730 with the same problem of not able to input letters on the search. Not sure if this is device specific issue or if there is something in this program not agreeing with the Dopod C730.

Just chiming in, my Dopod C730 (in English) is experiencing the same problem mentioned above. Unfortunately, the new Windows Live Search v2 is unusable on the C730.

I also own a Dopod C730 and have the same text entry issue. The following keys are an issue:

w,e,r,t,i,a,s,d,f,g,l,x,c,v,b,and the period. Numbers are not an issue. I can enter any of the numbers, but the letters associated with the numbers are not recognized. Any ideas?

Does the app host a browser control or have they reimplemented the JavaScript in C# in terms of figuring out which tiles to fetch from the server etc.?

I too am an early adopter of the Dopod C730 (HTC Cavalier, HTC S630) and experience the same problem with only numbers appearing. The problem occured with WLS v1 and now also with WLS v2. I've tried all the WM6 keymap registry hacks and I've tried disabling KeyTouch, but nothing seems to let me enter letters in WLS. All other apps on the phone work perfectly fine with the QWERTY keyboard. All GPS functions also work perfect with WLS v1 and V2.

Thanks for making such a killer application for smartphones. Please help us make it work with WM6 and specifically the Dopod C730.

i've loved every version of this application since its early iterations as virtual earth mobile...

but the scrolling on this version has been tweaked for the worse and it now takes too long to scroll around the map using the keys .... was there any reason for the change? any change of it changing back?

I just installed Live Search v2.0 on my Sprint Treo 700wx. 2.0 is a huge improvement over the previous versions; however, I am having lock-ups when selecting "Current GPS Location" under "Choose a New Location". My position is showing fine on the map, so I don't think my Pharos BT GPS is the problem (I will test with another GPS in a few days).

I have been able to replicate this issue repeatedly on two different 700wx's with clean installations of Live Search v2.0. My e-mails to the feedback address on wls.live.com keep coming back to me as undeliverable.

I should also add that this issue never occurred in the previous version of Live Search using the same hardware (BT GPS and phones).

Any ideas?

I posted earlier about the input issue with the C730. Just wanted to ley you know that I now have HTC's S630 and it has the very same issue. This is a great phone and a great app... too bad they don't work well together.

Awesome apps, thanks for releasing it. However, it does have some crashes in low-memory situations (zooming in, specifically).

Rather embarassing when I'm trying to show off to an iPhone fan and it ends up crashing.

Loading maps takes more data than it does on Google Maps for the same area. It's not a huge amount, but when you're stuck on an 8MB plan, every byte counts. Otherwise, I'd say Live Search is in every way better than Google's stuff. It's nice to see that the movie feature even works in Canada. :-)

One thing, however; I'd like to see more efficient usage of the storage card cache. Because of the way the tiles are stored as individual, tiny files, that 128MB cache only holds ~15MB of data due to the FAT formatting. It also makes reading from the cache significantly slower than grabbing the tiles over an EVDO connection (on a Motorola Q, which reads from the storage card to the USB line at roughly 1mbps). If the cache went into one contiguous archive, however, then I'd be able to cache my entire city while connected to the PC and make the data usage for map lookups nearly nonexistant! (And I bet the slowness problem would vanish, too)

You can download the exe to you're pc and use Reflector to disassemble it, the code is quite easy to follow.

I too have the same problem when using Yahoo Go. The input field is set to ABC. I cannot enter any text but work fine with numbers.

REally like v2.Search improvements, the beep before turns etc. etc. very nice. BUT BUT BUT....can someone please explain to me how they overlooked giving DIRECTIONS-BOUND directions. By that I mean, if I need to get onto I65, WM live search will not say I65-North or I65-South. It will only say take a right onto the ramp to I65.

Such an easy thing to implement, yet overlooked. It makes it a little tricky while driving, esp, when the ramps to the interstate are right next to each other.

Search v2 is pretty cool, thoroughly enjoyed the following:

- Miles to next event when mapping

- Re-route map from strayed location

Recommendations for v2.1

- Directional element added. Ex: Take ramp left to I405 doesn't quite have a good meaning as it will go North and South and these ramps are almost on top of eachother which leads to my over-use of the re-routing [critical importance]

- Re-route based on straying off the bounds of the route should also get that directional orientation down. Ex: When I was lost it was re-routing me without accounting for the fact I was already heading the opposite way. [high importance]

- Map zoom to enclose route after having been "4 Center on GPS" zoomed-in. Since I know the mileage to the next event and the approx travel time I took to get to where I am; I would like a zoom all the way out to estimate remaining travel time and do a little more heavy analysis of when the route changes rapidly and when it's more of a one-shot deal. [medium importance]

- More results in search of businesses. Shows top 30, would be handy for next 30 --- next 30 --- next 300 --- etc. [medium importance]

Great product, I thank MS Mobile team for putting together a great and intuitive application and at a great price of zero!

I'll stick with the Pocket Streets or some other brand which may not be "always up-to-date" but is faster and doesn't stop working when I get a loss of signal or have no wifi capability.

Hi, excellent software, thank you for that. I just have two questions.

1. When locating myself using GPS, it just centers the map and I didnot notice any mark on the map showing that location. And also there's no cross or any other pointer that I can move to set exact start and destination locations. For instance when I select set as Start location - the center of the map is taken as the start location.

Second is that - we have "clear pushpins" in the menu, but I could not find a way to place a pushpin.

I love this program...installed it on a T-Mobile Dash and it rocked...then I got my upgrade phone, a T-Mobile Wing (Dash is unfortunately near dead), and whenever I enter a address, it searches for it but can't find it. On the Dash, it finds it. I tried removing it and reinstalling it, but that didn't seem to make a difference. Any other Wing users seeing this?

This is a great application. I recently used it with a gps receiver to navigate around rural Connecticut. It behaved flawlessly. I was concerned how it would behave in regions lacking cell coverage, however, the display continuously showed the blue route line so that I knew I was on course even without map data. One question, however -- I could not find any way to delete the maps of start/end points from memory now that my trip is over. How does one clear the program of previously used data?

The maps and GPS integration are just great - and fast! Only problem is that occasionally it hangs when I close the maps page, or choose "search near here" - my ATT 8525 will totally hang needing a battery pull. I'm on 2.5.2859.37360 and Windows Mobile 6 with no updates available.

Like Barry, my unit (HTC Apache, WM6 but did it also with WM5) will totally hang trying to exit. I have to pull the battery. Somehow Live Search does not completely exit when you select "exit" from the menu. Other than that, this is a fantastic program.

Is there a public API for tying Live Search into other applications, such as a custom CRM app? I'm looking for ways to do things like "how do I get from my current location to a customer's site" with the fewest clicks. Maybe this is mostly trivial with Visual Studio, but I'm stuck thinking in terms of VBS and COM, and have yet to figure out .NET. (This is on a WM6 AT&T Tilt/Kaiser, BTW.)

Do we have a solution for the Fn key dual-use buttons? I have an HTC Mogul (I believe p6800) and this amazing program (Live maps) is absolutely useless because I can't type in any letters to spell out words, addresses, etc. Just the corresponding Fn equivalent shows up.

Hi. I also have the same issue as dsparks. I bought a bluetooth GPS receiver, and downloaded the Windows Live Search Mobile for my VW XV6700. The program works great when I am in a Hotspot. When I am not in a hotspot it attempts to connect to the the Verizon data network, which is really expensive.

Is there a way to use Window Live Search without having to pay for an expensive data plan?

is there anyway to download windows live search to my computer and then copy it to my phone because that's what I did the first time but I recently upgraded to windows mobile 6.1 so live search was cleared off. I would just use my phones internet to download it but for some reason AT&T decided to charge me extra for something I did last month despite my unlimited everything PDA plan, so I would like to avoid that if I can. I have a Samsung Blackjack 2 if that makes a difference.

I have changed location, performed a cold boot and re-installed application fresh from the d/l, still cannot get the list to update (No results).

The mileage between points appears to 1.6 x the correct mileage. This appears to be kilometers but suffixed with the miles indicator.
