I thought one of the goals of Visual Studio 2008 is to be able to target a .NET env, either 3.5, 3.0, 2.0.

Is this (some Win SDK samples not building) a bug in Visual Studio 2008?

These 3 file that ship with VS2005 are for building Win32 (unmanaged code) samples, not used to target .NET. They've likely been superceded. We'll be updating the samples in the future to build with the newer files. In the meantime, to get the samples to compile without workaround, only VS 2005 will do.

I'll research the appropriate workaround and post it here. Thanks for bringing it up!
