I am sure you have looked at Groove's shared folders, rigtht? Will we eventually get a similiar user expirience? I think they almost nailed it in term of ease of use. Also, I think one of the KEY points why Groove works so well is the fact that it has build in solutions for the following two situations:

1. Firewalls. Groove even syncs through the most locked down firewall. Obviously traffic runs through a server hosted by Groove in that case.
2. Groove even syncs when the two PCs are not switched on at the same time. Again, this uses Grooves servers to temporarily store the deltas.

I really think that ANY sync solution that doesn't do it the same way will not be painless enough for normal users to be used.

David, WinFS Sync implements core sync logic, but it's ultimately up to the sync adapter developers how would they transport/store data and sync metadata during sync. For example, WinFS Sync provides a technology which would allow you to define a custom transport and implement a sinmple sync adapter which would be able to sync through any connection, e.g. MSMQ (sync endpoints are not online/offline together), file system relay point, etc. It's not currently clear what sync adapters will be shipped with WinFS, and whether WinFS will ship a sync UI tool like Rave. It's up to the people who consume beta 1 and their feedback.
