Don’t be so Pushy…

Typically, being pushy is a bad thing, but in the case of Windows Live for Windows Mobile, being pushy isn’t bad at all!  Of course, we’re talking about push Hotmail.  However, some of you have reported issues with push mail not working consistently and we’ve been hard at work investigating the cause.  The good news is we have figured out what is causing this elusive issue!

Keep in mind this would only affect those of you that have your mail set to synchronize “As items arrive” in the “Sync schedule” settings and if you are also signed into Messenger in certain ways.

For those of you that just can’t live without push mail (we know how you feel!), here are some tips to make sure you get the correct push-email behavior.

If you are signed in to Windows Live Messenger on your PC and your status is “Online” or “In a call” you could see interruption of push mail working on your device.  The workaround is to have Messenger on your PC in any state other than “Online” or “In a call”.  Luckily, by default, PC Messenger changes your state to “Away” in lots of common scenarios, such as being inactive for a certain time period, locking your computer, or when the screen saver is activated.  This means that most of you will continue to receive push hotmail on your Windows Mobile device when you are away from your PCs.

If you are signed in to Windows Live Messenger on your Windows Mobile phone you could see interruption of push mail working on your device.  The workaround is to sign out of Messenger on your Windows Mobile phone.  We realize this is not ideal for those of you that use Messenger a lot, but currently it is the only way to restore consistent push mail behavior on the phone.

Rest assured we are working hard to have a fix implemented on our servers to permanently solve this issue and we’ll be sure to update you when the fix is rolled out. Thanks for your patience while we work this out and we apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue.  Please do let us know if you have any issues using Windows Live for Windows Mobile.

We’ve also been working on a few other things to improve your Windows Live experience on existing Windows Mobile devices – we’ve made the flow for discovering how to download Windows Live for Windows Mobile much easier – when you try to set up Hotmail from Outlook Mobile, the wizard will take you to the download page for Windows Live for Windows Mobile if you don’t already have it. Also, some people had reported problems syncing contacts and we’ve sorted that problem out as well.

Thanks for your continued support and let’s stay connected through Windows Live for Windows Mobile!

You talk about fixing the contacts synching issue, but as one of the people who had this problem, it still doesn't appear to be fixed.

"Contacts: There is a problem with the server. Please try again later."

Also comparing the build on the site now, to one I downloaded at the start of December shows no changes, suggesting the fix should be server side?
