Sorry for the delay in responding - There are currently no known issues with Windows Live for Windows Mobile connectivity that we are aware of. Did it ever work for you before? One thing might be that some data plans allow only use of HTTP traffic and Windows Live for Windows Mobile requires TCP connectivity to work.

Thanks for the reply.

It was working fine up until 23rd August and then just suddenly stopped. I guess I could look into my data plan although it feels a bit speculative.

Does WL4WM produce a log file on the device?

Do you have any ideas how I might diagnose the problem?

I'm having more problems that may or may be associated with WL4WM.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket last night to find that I only had 3 contacts on it. About an hour earlier I had over 700 (yeah, I seem to collect contacts :) )

This was a bit of a shock so I tried to resync my contacts again using WL4WM and it fails on the contact sync part (emails are syncing just fine).

Now its possible that this is more problems at the Vodafone end again (see blog comments above) but given that emails are syncing OK...I doubt it.

I'm crossing my fingers that you guys are going to reply to this and say "Oh yeah, known issue. Just do XYZ and it'll be fixed" but even if that's not the case I'd appreciate it if you could reply here and let me know if you have any ideas about what may be going on here.

Thanks in advance

Jamie

P.S. I can be contacted offline at jamie[AT]jamieDASHthomsonDOTnet

i saved my contacts from Windows Live Messenger

Contacts > Save instant messaging contacts

went into hotmail went to contacts, and deleted all the messenger contacts.

i synced the contacts on the phone and it worked

Contacts > import instant messaging contacts

resync the contacts after that

Thanks for the reply. I spoke to someone 4 days ago who told me he had suffered the same and that its a known problem with WinMob6.1. Not sure how true that is.

FYI I am running WinMob6.1 on a Vodafone v1615 (aka HTC Kaiser).

Earlier today I thought that contacts syncing *seems* to have started working again, when I hit the sync button it doesn't stop immediately upon contacts sync which I took to be a good sign.

Not all is well though. I remember that a couple of days ago I had approx 680 contacts. A couple of hours ago i checked and I had 618. I've checked immediately prior to writing this and I have 589. In the last few hours I have been manually syncing from my phone because I *thought* that it was working - that is why I know how many contacts I have had at adifferent stages.

And one other thing, I don't have the option to turn off contacts sync (the check box has a check in it but it is greyed out).

YOU ARE NOW CAUSING ME TO LOSE DATA. NEARLY 100 CONTACTS WORTH. THIS IS DISGRACEFUL.

I'm not one to to normally leave disparaging comments on blogs but your software is now doing more harm than good. I am going to unninstall it as soon as I've finished writing this.

I am a loyal WL customer and I have been asking for information on this for weeks now and you have provided nothing. My confidence in what you are trying to do has disintegrated.

I must point out...I am getting the number of contacts from http://people.live.com so yes, you are somehow managing to delete my contacts from Windows Live proper, not jsut from my phone.

In the time that it has taken me to write this comment my number of contacts have fallen again - 586 now.

I work with Ram. He brought your situation to my attention. Thanks Ram!

One of the challenges with this particular issue is catching it in the act. In the cases we've seen so far the contacts are long gone by the time we get the report and then we find that it cannot reproduce.

If you can still reproduce this we would really like to learn more about this instance of the problem.

The first thing to do is export your Contacts list to a csv file to prevent any further unrecoverable loss.

I would then really encourage you to engage us through http://support.live.com. Support is the right contact path through which we can get information on your reproduction of this problem.
