Hi,
sorry to bother you all with this here, but I can't find the answer to my question
I'm wondering how I can get the first eventlog of for example the "system" log,
without loading the complete log first.

Why?
Well we have a few servers with very big eventlogs.
I wrote a program in .net (framework 2.0) to remote read the logs (using wmi).

when I use a ObjectQuery, I can read the whole log, that's easy.
(SELECT * FROM Win32_NTLogEvent WHERE Logfile='system')
But the log has more then 400000 records, so it takes a lot of time to load it.

So, I want to load only the first (in fact, the last written) 1000 records.

I can't use the normal sql syntax ('TOP 1000') in the wql.
I can change the select by adding the recordnumber in the where clause.
But then I need to know the highest recodnumber first.
That's why I need to know the fist record (last written) without loading the complete list.

I've searched the brains out of my head on the internet, but nothing found.
Hope one of you can help me.

It would be great to see more information on WMI across domain boundaries and how to troubleshoot DCOM issues in more depth (beyond the firewall stuff).

Nice article but it needs a refresh.

WMIDiag 2.0 has been released quite some time.

And I get the impression even WMIDiag 2.0 should be updated for XP SP3.
