HTC Touch Diamond launched in Australia, with Telstra

On Tuesday (24th June) a few of us from the WMOz team attended the official launch for the HTC Touch Diamond. The good news - it's the first WM6.1 device to be launched in Australia.

The launch event was held in partnership with Telstra, as there is a bunch of customised services that Telstra will deliver on the Touch Diamond. Expectation for availability was given as late July/early August.

The main focus was on Horace Luke (Chief Innovation Officer for HTC) as he demonstrated the Touch Diamond interface, showing off the TouchFLO 3D experience, rich browsing including one handed zoom and text rendering, streaming of YouTube content, with quite an emphasis on leveraging the full speed of the Telstra network.

The spec's for the Touch Diamond that will be on the Telstra NextG network are:

  • HSDPA 7.2 (upload) 3.6 (download)
  • 640x480, 2.8inch (7cm) VGA display
  • Bluetooth, WiFi
  • 3.2 megapixel camera
  • 850Mhz support - so will access full speed capability of the NextG network, with customised services such as WhereIs, TradingPost, FoxTel, Sensis.
  • all the other specs are available on HTC's site
  • oh, nearly forgot to mention - the weather pane has a neat "windscreen wiper" effect to clear the droplets on a rainy day smile_regular
