Stomping out issues one by one

The graveyard shift has been investigating and triaging issues all night – thanks for your reports!  We’re working our way though the list and resolving them as quickly as we can.

I want to let you know that we are absolutely aware of the Marketplace issues that people are reporting and that’s at the top of our list.  If you’re not aware, we have a Support page that we keep updated when we run into issues.

If you’re looking to download today’s XBLA releases (M: TG, Sam & Max, and Rocket Riot), Big Surf Island, or other recent pieces of content hang in there.  I’ll let you know as soon as we have those problems resolved.

It's in your purchase history, you can queue it up again if you want. It's still not going to download until live is fixed, but you can queue it up again.

# kurosawasghost said on June 17, 2009 4:11 PM:

thanks for the update do we have any eta, i.e. can we expect this to get fixed today or is this going to be a lingering issue? thanks.

# Kevin said on June 17, 2009 4:18 PM:

Uh.. Ghostbuster promo codes are not being validated through the MarketPlace. When is this gonna get fixed?

# foolish man said on June 17, 2009 4:24 PM:

i simply cannot open this jar of pickled onions.

when is the patch released?

The Marketplace problem has been unresolved for over 12 hours now, after following a 24 down time.  So, 36 hours of suck, and no ETA.  In fact, your website didn't even list the issue for over 10 hours.  Keep up the great work, guys.  At this rate, you should have it working by some time next week.

# Bongo Morris(Sex Machine) said on June 17, 2009 4:35 PM:

thx Northerid lot,i will check out my download history

i wonder if next time it would be best to do these maintenance things maybe on a Thursday,so that we have already got the busiest marketplace day out of thew way..just a thought

# same bs every year said on June 17, 2009 4:37 PM:

Why does the same thing happen EVERY time you guys do a update? DELAY DELAY

Its current problems are never fixed and nothing new is ever added after the down time.

Last night I try to redeem a code for an XBLA game (Sonic 3),every time i hit redeem code, it says: "There is a problem with the offer associated with this code." I couldn't figure it out why it showed me that error, until i notice something wrong in the arcade marketplace, the games from the sega vintage collection are missing. Maybe that why i can't download the XBLA game, because the game is not in the marketplace. Hope you can fix it soon guys.

# CoolJosh3k said on June 17, 2009 4:43 PM:

24 hour maintainence; thats harsh.

12 hours after; to be expected with the number of changes made.

I can wait, and you have my sympathy for the hard work your doing. (I do hope you guys are getting paid overtime!)

However though, it seems there is very little information avaliable for users not knowing where to look for help. And what about compensation?

I don't expect compensation as I understand the issues you guys are having. But can we have update more frequently to this blog? And more detail.

Thanks for listening (my two cents worth and more).

Hope things start getting easier soon.

I am waiting for Magic The Gathering, hope you can fix this soon!! hehe ;)

# Phil said on June 17, 2009 4:57 PM:

The recent downtime has made it such that I have spent more time with my family. Please work faster on these remaining problems.

# CoolJosh3k said on June 17, 2009 5:02 PM:

So true Phil, so true.

BTW anyone heard of free realms while we wait? It is expected to become more popular that WoW and only came out in April (3m players+ so far). Not many can topple a 800-pound guerilla.

# Kevin said on June 17, 2009 5:02 PM:

Like Phil said.. spending time with family sucks. Hurry up!

# Wafflehouse said on June 17, 2009 5:04 PM:

Please, fix the XBL / Marketplace issues faster!  The sun, it burns my eyes!  With no xbox to play, I actually have to go do things that are useful!

People, the fine people are MS are working on the issues.  it's not like this is running Windows Updates on 3 desktops, they're looking at a farm of servers which is a delicate balancing act.... and yes, things go wrong, the more detailed the fixes, the more things can go wrong.  Give them time, it'll be up when it gets there, and not a moment too soon.

Existing games seem to work, and the "extra" features that people are scrambling after (marketplace mainly from the looks of it) will be resolved as soon as they can - they're not resting on their laurels, they'd actually be working on the problem.

Give 'em a break, you won't say two words to them in a month when the service is working and all this is behind you.

# Geoff said on June 17, 2009 5:16 PM:

The downtime doesn't really bother me at all.  If Microsoft wants to stop people comlaining that they paid $50 etc... they just ought to announce that they're going to give everyone who has an xbox live account a microsoft points credit equivalent to $50 / days of content.  So far, that would be $00.28 in Microsoft points.  That would be what, like 35 points?  Again, I could care less, but it would be a way to get people to STFU.

# archaic frost said on June 17, 2009 5:18 PM:

I'm glad to hear you are aware of and working on the issues. Looking forward to you guys getting the bugs ironed out and downloading Magic: The Gathering.

A question/thought I had yesterday while the system was down, and again today: When doing maintenance with any amount of downtime on a Tuesday have you considered releasing that weeks XBLA title on Monday? My thought yesterday was if its a big title with a solid single player it would probably do really well as I think a lot of people would be interested in picking up a (relatively) inexpensive new game to play during the downtime. I think that would also help to alleviate some of the community unrest when unanticipated problems arise like what's happened today.

In any event, thanks for the hard work and I hope you're able to resolve the issues soon.

will this fix the fight night round 4 demo freezing problems?

# Bongo Morris(Sex Machine) said on June 17, 2009 5:38 PM:

Geoff-its COULDN'T care less, not COULD....why do people always say it wrong..your way makes no sense :)

# JJOR64 said on June 17, 2009 5:52 PM:

I really want to try out the Magic The Gathering game.  I hope marketplace gets fixed in a few hours.

# Stu said on June 17, 2009 5:53 PM:

Glad there are people working on it, but it's almost like every time there's an update to XBL, more ugly issues seem to be discovered in the wake of it. More testing is required prior to signing off these revisions I think.

# who said on June 17, 2009 5:55 PM:

Going on 48 hrs now and marketplace is still having issues. What a surprise. At least somebody updated the blog and the status pages finally...

# Mac said on June 17, 2009 5:58 PM:

im really glad to know that microsoft is actively working on ways to fix marketplace, there has also been some dashboard sticking and also some lag during games.  So is there any eta as to when marketplace will be fixed??.  as i really want sam and max??

# who said on June 17, 2009 5:59 PM:

"The graveyard shift has been investigating and triaging issues all night"

That explains why there was still nothing on the blog or the status page at 7am PST this morning...

# angryman said on June 17, 2009 6:09 PM:

The most frustrating part of these whole things is that Microsoft lies about the problems to us..... saying things like "a tiny fraction of users are having issues," or "a few people are having issues with marketplace."  It's obvious that these are widespread problems, and it's obvious that Microsoft is lying.

Here's an idea... Do these upgrades slowly instead of all at once... have an hour offline every day or something, that would be much better than 48 hours of downtime like you have now.  Websites with MORE users (facebook, google, Amazon) have no problems staying online more than you guyds.

# PropB said on June 17, 2009 6:12 PM:

How can you say "they're lying"  they are very forthcoming about the issues, it is only marketplace and only content within the last week or so.

# Mac said on June 17, 2009 6:20 PM:

Microsoft is not lying they are in the process of trying to do everything in there power to rectify this problem.  Its just a case of being patient.
