Answering a few FAQs

It’s good to see millions of you online again!  The vast majority of folks are happily gaming once again, but we’re not done yet.  Here’s an update on a few of the topics that people have been asking about via the blog/email/twitter.

 

The case of the missing content:

The missing content has been found!  The Sega XBLA titles, Burnout: Paradise Big Surf Island, the latest Rock Band content, and the rest are now available.  Enjoy!

 

The Optional Media Update:

A number of people have asked about this.  It’s working now – I just verified it myself - but there is a special restriction around it that can be confusing.  You can only download the OMU on a single console per gamertag.  If you need to download on another console – for instance, if you have two 360s  – you’ll need to use a different account on each console.  If you don’t have a second account you can create a new Silver account and that’ll work fine.

 

Slowness and/or timeouts with http://support.xbox.com:

Some people are having no problems with the site while it’s not working for others.  This is one of our top priorities right now and we’ll get it resolved ASAP.

 

The Forza 2 Auction House isn’t working:

We’re aware of this and are currently working with the folks at Turn 10 on it.  We’ll get it resolved as soon as we can.

Comparing Games on Xbox.com:

There have been a number of questions around viewing the achievements of friends on Xbox.com.  When you view someone's profile you'll now see a link for "Compare Games".

 

 

There have been a lot of requests for more details about what we did on Tuesday.  Look for a post from me in the next few days on the subject.

Problem: My console keeps super crashing when I try to download Rocket Riot. First, it feezes. I can turn the box off with the front button, but I can't turn it back on with the controller until I completely unplug it and plug it back in.

I'm still having an odd issue. I have a gold account and my two sons have silver accounts. Awhile back I downloaded the Toy Car pack and legendary car packs for Burnout Paradise and I was able to use them fine, and so were my sons. Now it seems that although I still have access to these cars, my sons do not for some reason. Also, I bought Big Surf Island yesterday and that's working fine for all of us.

I tried re-downloading the toy and legendary car packs again through my account but my kids still don't have access to them. Any idea how to sort that out?

I haven't been able to download 1vs100 for 4 days now.. currently getting the error "Cannot download, please try again later" I am in the UK, but using my Canadian xbox and Canadian xbl account (I'm a displaced Canuck ;)) Is the dl for this game ip filtered? I have tried deleting 1vs100 from my hd and re-downloading, no dice. Also cleared the cache, no dice as well.

It's absolutely a f'ing disgrace that this stuff has not been fixed... everytime I log into LIVE with my 360, I get a hard lock on the console and I have to turn the console off. Each time I scroll up to the Game MarketPlace blade, it hard locks -- this has happened 8 times in a row -- the first hard lock when I was trying to download the Map Pack for CoD.. now it hard locks each time I sign in.. probably trying to download from MP... thanks MS and E. Doing such a great job so far.

Seriously, e... WTF?!

I was experiencing these hard locks as well, but I assumed my HDD was dying and put in a new 60GB and then spent an hour recovering my profile (why does this take so long?) and making a new silver profile to download the OMU.

The new account could not download it either, but while I was looking into that I found this whole hardlocking thing in the comments and put my 20GB back on. No problems at all after clearing out my download queue.

One small thing: I got the Time Savers Pack for Burnout Paradise and it won't show up on my memory unit (HDD) under Games>Burnout Paradise after I deleted it and then re-download it. But if I chose to re-re-download it, it sais: Play now, so the content is there, only not showing up under the menu. All other updates (Big Surf Island, Cars Packs etc are there, 80 kb each).

I tried everything (meintenance on console etc)

What in the World is the point of putting the DRM security on the absolutely free "Optional Media Update"?

I mean honestly other than to piss us off and such what is the point?  Most people are on their 2nd/3rd/4th 360 and can only do 1 license transfer a year.  So again why put DRM on a free media update so then we can't play our movies when live is down?  It just seems like the most ridiculous thing ever and one of those head scratchers like "who thought than one up"?

Don't laugh, but I am STILL unable to download UNO onto my new 360 console. All my other XBLA games which I bought on my old console have downloaded and run fine with no hiccups.... UNO, however: "Status code: 80070190" :-(.

Guys, I understand that things like this aren't straight forward, but I think it's getting a bit silly now. If it was an open-source community, sure, take as long as you need, but this is a paid service, I have paid for my stuff, why cant I get it??

Is anything going to be done to ensure compatibility?  Some versions of IE don't support PNG transparency, so I pretty much see a bunch of gray squares all over the page and it's really ugly.  This can be fixed very easily:

I'm assuming you are aware of it, though you didn't mention it. But the entire marketplace is getting many errors and is extremely slow.

Many items are also missing artwork.

Hopefully you guys are working on getting this fixed, because it is reflecting badly on xbox live's service. It seems every time there is maintenance we are all feeling the ripple effects for weeks.

Ok. Now i'm really mad. No new info here for several days.

I'm mad though 'cause i can now definitely say that the TrueSkill system is not working (Peggle Duel).

I used to be number 10, but fell back to 30. No problem, I probably just need to win more matches again. Rank 45 after several wins and still no improvement. Rank 65. 10:1 win ratio, but Rank not increasing. Seem a loss is recorded though, as it is decreasing on loss.

For further example. A friend who played Peggle Duel online also was Ranked number 2. He then dropped to number 33. Made it back to Rank 18. After the server issues of 24+ hours his Rank keep falling slowly. Rank 19 then 33 then 35.

My friend is now Rank 150 when he was number 2 before the 24+ service updates.

I am now rank 65 and yet plenty of wins with no increase to my TrueSkill Ranking.

NB: these numbers are approximate and relate to the Peggle Duel leaderboards.

Sorry for this double-post, but I forgot to mention something else:

The top 400 people on the Peggle Duel leaderboard had a TS score of at least 25.

Now however, only the top 50 players have a TS score of 25.

Those players have probably not played online since the 24+ server service upgrade meltdown.

Contacted customer support a number of times about this now, and they keep telling me that they are "investigating my account to find out why this is happening", but they're still not spilling the beans.

This is pathetic Microsoft. You pay for something, so you are entitled to have it, not be fobbed off with excuses every time there is an "update". As the previous poster said, it's strange how Microsoft performs these updates and maintenance to make the experience better for their customers, but it ends up causing more hiccups for weeks after. Furthermore I find it hard to comprehend how reinitialising a service with missing goods that customers have paid for is actually helping the customers...

I think it means the content you are trying to download does NOT exist. Even if you payed for it. I have been getting that error when trying to download Mutant Storm Reloaded, which I paid for.

I understand some of the new content went missing after the maintenance, but I can't understand why some of the old content like Mutant Storm Reloaded, UNO, and now Texas Hold'em have gone missing.

I'm scared to buy things from Marketplace now.

ok, ive deceided to try allsorts of things from the marketplace - videos, arcade trials, game demos... pretty much anything u can download without paying for it... and still get the error about not being able to retrieve info from xbox live at this time. they all give errors starting in 80somithing and none work :( NZ markeplace truely broken?

Can't download purchased content, always getting error 80004004 - have to sign out and then back in to see anything I've purchased after that. Lots of fun for re-downloading all my Rock Band tracks. Go to frag off some frustration in CoD and the map packs disappear, no fixes in sight, or even an acknowledgement of problems - xbox live devs all on vacation?... maybe time to upgrade to a ps3

no offense, but your support team are reaaaaallly horrible. trying to work through my inability to download without getting the 80004004 error and the only thing they can continue to recommend is that i re-download my content?? downloading IS the problem! they then recommend i give them a call at the number below - and then neglect to give me the number! i point this out, they send me back another e-mail recommending i re-download the content. it's like the three stooges are working your e-mail support! not impressed

I enter my code for the full game, it goes to download screen and I click on download now and I keep getting the status code 80153022 and asked to try again. I've been also getting the 80004004 when downloading ANYTHING from the marketplace. But, it happens 100% of the time on the Call of Juarez Bound in Blood videos. It's intermittent with arcade games and DLC, but happens still very often.

It's sad that you guys STILL cannot get this stuff fixed after the maintainence. How long has it been since LIVE was back up? Gimme a break.

Especially when I try to navigate trough my friendslist and XBL party menu's.

-It's asking me to buy all the items THAT I ALREADY PAID FOR

I hate to say it but you guys need to get in gear and get this stuff fixed. Whether that means yelling at your boss or putting your job on the line, you need to do it because this is unacceptable. If people/policy at Microsoft are preventing you from doing your work, then you need to put your foot down and do something about it, take a stand for your position's worth and what you believe in.

I'm still getting 800***** errors left and right.. no matter what I do in the MarketPlace. Some errors pop up 3 or 4 times in a row.
