Intermittent errors in Marketplace

We’re aware of intermittent errors in Marketplace that are affecting Xbox Live, Xbox.com, and Games for Windows.  You may run into one of a few different status codes including 80004004, 807B01F4, and 8015000a.  It may also show that you haven’t purchased content that you have – don’t worry, we haven’t lost your purchase even though it may appear so.

This can occur whether you’re searching Marketplace from the Dashboard or from within a game.

There’s a team of people actively working on the issue.  Our apologies for the hassle - we’ll get this resolved as soon as we can.

this was the issues i was telling you about the other day

Intermittent? I haven't been able to buy anything from the Web marketplace all day...

# UR BUS IS SHORT said on July 1, 2009 7:34 PM:

I don't know if this matters now that you are on it, but I have been getting these messages sporadically for close to a month now.

It hasn't been a big deal because it always seemed to finally connect, but presentation wise it could turn away new or potential members.

My gamertag is UR BUS IS SHORT just in case you need to know.

Thanks for looking into this

# Logic Squirrel said on July 1, 2009 7:38 PM:

Glad this is being worked on, I've bought something then apparently i have not lol.

Also for some reason the content is not working in-game, still took my points for something i seemingly did not purchase.

# Enkeixpress said on July 1, 2009 7:55 PM:

Oh god, Thank you so much for letting me know dude! lol

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that I couldn't re-download those Call of Duty waW Map Packs back, ah man.. lol

Thats great thats it been worked on!

# Von551 said on July 1, 2009 8:19 PM:

i just got my 360 back from RROD and i thought it came back with an issue. i've never seen this error code on xbox live. really annoying since i'm trying to re-download all of my games onto my HDD. please fix ASAP! thanks...

# Siddy said on July 1, 2009 8:50 PM:

Yea. This has been going on for a while. It hasn't just crept up. You guys have been oblivious to this issue for days it seems.  Sometimes you have to acknowledge the public and look into these things instead of waiting so long.  This was happening the minute Live came up after that hideous maintenance mid June, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I read posts here from you guys as you were fixing symptoms and not the problems.  Just look at the official xbox forums and these error codes have been plastered all over there since.

# xDSx Sour said on July 1, 2009 8:55 PM:

I dont understand why everyone is complaining. This problem could have been not that big of an issue if it was just happening to a few people. I mean, I never had this issue before. Where I was on the marketplace yesterday.

But today, I do. Fix it please?

# Consumer said on July 1, 2009 8:57 PM:

Perhaps taking out the suck from the status message?  Alphanumeric nothingness is very MS.

# Siddy said on July 1, 2009 9:06 PM:

What a lot of people haven't realized, is that until today, support ( as in web or telephone ), oblivious to the fact and problem, has been telling people to delete and restore gamertags, change router settings, clear caches, delete unused games, and things that they really should not be telling non-tech savy people to do.  I've read too many horror stories already, and one person getting led astray is one too many. And yes, this has been going on from even before the big maintenance and progressively getting worse. It was stated here a few times, and all over the official forums.  Maybe support and development need to communicate a little more so the gears can turn more reliably.

# Bob said on July 1, 2009 10:42 PM:

@Siddy.

Yeah, I had the same problem about a month ago (definitely before the downtime) and was told to delete & restore my gamertag.  Quite frankly I think it was a ploy to get me off the phone, as they force you to call back in after telling you to do that.

Obviously it didn't work & the next rep refunded my microsoft points.

Over the last few hours we've been able to make some pretty dramatic improvements to the performance of Marketplace.

I'm not ready to say it's fixed - and we're not done - but I thought I should swing by and give an update.

The web market place is a joke

it keeps taking you to xbox.com/

i just had 8 hours of hell redownloading my history

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/games/offers/0ccf0028-0000-4000-8000-00004d530888

this wont redownload at all it was only by chance i noticed it failed on the 360

the web marketplace needs an error log

god knows if anything else failed

and im not downloading 500 things again to see

# Pettigrew81 said on July 4, 2009 8:52 PM:

Today I couldnt join a battlefield in CoD:WaW because I didnt have the map, but I bought all of them. That keeps happening.

# CoolJosh3k said on July 5, 2009 3:34 AM:

Somebody finally posted something new. (and useful)

Look at the post by Shaun above. He is a new gold member and can't join any online matches.

BTW people: if you have any trouble with MS support over the phone, (or anywhere for that matter), mention the PS3. That should shake them into action.

# Enkeixpress said on July 5, 2009 10:12 AM:

Some tips..

1. Try deleting your cache.. To do this, On the dashboard, Go to System.

Then, Go into a Memory & then hit "Y" .. Now hit these in sequence.. "X,X,LB,RB,X,X

It will ask you "Do you want to do maintenance...?" or something along those lines.. Hit "Yes" or "A"

---

2. Try deleting Martetplace content which is located in the "system items" section of Memory, then restarting your console.

From doing this, You'll definately see a drastic improvement in Dashboard speed like when you bring up the mini- dashboard & whatnot..

Apart from those two tops I have, Theres nothing else that you can do to solve these problems then.. Only these Xbox dudes can!

# CoolJosh3k said on July 5, 2009 12:36 PM:

I got something new . . .

Playing a duel on Team Fortress 2 when suddenly I get the "disconnected from Live: message". Both of use are unkown to each other from across the world and both still playing (he scored a headshot BTW).

When the match ended the game froze.

The dashboard had the option "connect to Live"

# TheSlip said on July 6, 2009 4:43 PM:

I can download content that I purchased a long time ago but any content within the past year that i have bought cannot be downloaded...

# Mikey said on July 7, 2009 12:12 AM:

Clearing the cache does nothing to improve the speed of the dash. Why the hell would you want to do something that would force you to download game updates again and have to reload all the crap that is cached? Its microsoft servers or their coding within the dash that is foobared. Don't run around giving users ideas to clear cache and whatnot when it's just going to cause more frustration for the user in the end. Are you an Xbox customer support rep or something? You sure sound like one.

# CoolJosh3k said on July 7, 2009 12:27 AM:

While I am trying not to stand up for Enkeixpress, what he said about clearing you cache is partly true. However the difference in speed won't be noticable for 99 percent of people.

Part two of his tip may also speed things up, but only 95 percent of people will find this helps.

# Nick said on July 14, 2009 8:02 PM:

No, it is not fixed. Try downloading something on the web marketplace.

This has been broken for over a month now, and promised status-updates/fixes have not occurred. The XBL Ops team should be ashamed of themselves.

# Danielle said on July 15, 2009 2:31 PM:

Mine is still messed up too. I keep getting the same status code as the guy 3 posts above me is getting. Xbox keeps telling me its my internet but its not. Its been like this since the maintenance they last did.

I am still getting the Status Code 80153022 everytime I try to download TMNT 1989 Classic Arcade. This has been happening since April.

# Kevin said on July 19, 2009 9:15 PM:

It's never going to get fixed because "e" and his crew is online playing Battlefield 1943. Check out his gamercard. Good to know that this issue is being worked on... f*ckin' pathetic, E.

# Rob said on July 22, 2009 9:50 AM:

So is this problem being worked on or has it been pushed aside? Why can't I download some content. I get a status code 80153022. I bought TMNT 1989 Classic Arcade and cannot down load it. I have been getting this status code for over a month. Xbox Support is useless in finding a solution.

- gamertag

- the content you're trying to download

- your Service Request number if you've called support

Anyone else who posts & their message has no grey background or you can't click on their name is not the real deal

You are correct Enkeixpress. You click on his name and get his MSDN profile and you can view his recent posts. The last one is not shown. Perhaps a phisher.

I have been constantly getting error code 80004005 for over a month now.  This comes up when i click on my own game library while signed into live, as well as always popping up when i click to browse any of the game or video marketplace.  Is this a still a problem for many others as well still.  I have a 2nd xbox in the house that does the same thing. Problem started after the last xbox maintenance where there was down time so I am unlikely to believe this to be solely an ISP problem here.

# mas1 said on July 26, 2009 7:32 PM:

still not i fixed instantly get 80004005 error when I try to access the marketplace. Never had a problem  until the last maintence update. This better be fixed in the summer update! Been over a month without marketplace now!

# G-Magic5 said on July 27, 2009 4:26 AM:

I don't care about these other status codes that are being fixed daily.  The real problem is STATUS CODE:  80004005.  For over a month it has plagued my marketplace and want even let me look at anything.  It is really pissing me off, as I have contacted MS directly and they just give me BS troubleshooting steps that don't work.  This better be fixed by the time the new DLC comes out for Call of Duty: WaW so I can get Map Pack 3.

# G-Magic5 said on July 27, 2009 4:33 AM:

Oh, wow.  I was just on MS's website looking at the xbox status codes. And, well, 80004005 isn't on there?  How can there be a status code popping up that doesn't exist.  Maybe it's just an old thing that hasn't been updated.  I dunno, it's weird.

# ct24 said on July 27, 2009 8:07 AM:

get his fixed now this is a major turn off to your system.......my xbox was faulty 6 times and now this is a frequent occurence please fix ASAP

# Cindy Frogit said on July 27, 2009 2:44 PM:

I have the same issue with he status code 80004005 as well, it's being over a month and I can't download anything. I called 4 times to 4-my-xbox(aka.... 4-your-annoyance) and I'm supposed to receive a call back...pfff.... yeah. I am wondering what to do... as well..... I even formated an old 20 gb hard drive to see if that would help... nope.... big let down.

# G-Magic5 said on July 27, 2009 3:30 PM:

I have a scheduled call back tomorrow for status code 80004005.  But I doubt it will do any good.  Please include a fix in the next update.  Oh yeah, please have the next update in the next few weeks!

# -e- said on July 27, 2009 6:21 PM:

If you're one of the people experiencing status code 80004005 I'll be glad to get this looked into for you, but I need some information in order to do so.

Send me an email (e@xbox.com) with the following information:

- gamertag

- what screen you're on and what you're trying to do when it happens

- your Service Request number if you've called support

The more details you can provide the quicker I can get to the bottom of things.

# G-Magic5 said on July 29, 2009 2:27 AM:

I will be glad to email you, but I have talked to support over 12 hours in the past week.  Now after todays scheduled(it got canceled for lack of information on status code 80004005)call back I have another call back in the next 2 weeks with a "Level 3 Superviser/Investigative Team?".

Must be something serious.

# G-Magic5 said on July 29, 2009 2:41 AM:

I just emailed you.  Do you have any clue as to when I will have a response?

# FreeznDeez said on August 10, 2009 11:05 PM:

I get this error all the time. I cant even see any of the content because I will get the Status: 80004005 error code then immediately after I get the "Content no longer available" message. Now I know that the content is available because i highly doubt the 50 games I tried to look at would be on the list with nothing to purchase. My gamertag is FreezNDeez so if MS could help me out, I want to spend points and money with you, but it wont let me. I am dying to download some DLC content for new games I got, but alas I am unable. Wonder if I take my Xbox to a friends house with a different connection, if that would make a difference. For the record, I am on HughesNet Satellite internet  so yes my lag time is that of a fat lady running a 5K but I still should be able to purchase extra stuff so I can enjoy my games longer and in different ways.

# mas1 said on August 12, 2009 1:09 AM:

Guys I just discovered on the xbox.com forums 80004005 is only happening to hughes satellite users!!

This confirms MS did something shady in the june maintenance update to specifically block hughes satellite users. E better contact some people about this and have it sorted quickly. We can no longer access the marketplace and buy your crap!!

# Jaques said on August 12, 2009 4:27 AM:

mas1, can you post a link, please?

# mgrider2 said on August 12, 2009 4:42 AM:

I've been searching for weeks why my marketplace all of a sudden starting giving me that error.  Finally I stumble across this, and of course I should have known it was Microsoft all along.  It's bad enough being stuck out in the country not being able to play Halo and COD with my friends online, but now I can't even download map packs and demos.

# UpgradeSherman said on August 12, 2009 8:47 PM:

I too have had the 80004005 status code for months now. I also have HughesNet. It suck I can't even play games with my friends either. But downloading items off the marketplace has never been a problem until now, I really need this fixed.

# Paul said on August 13, 2009 9:05 PM:

On HughesNet as well.  Looks like we found the problem..

# Thehuntsouth said on August 14, 2009 12:21 AM:

Hughesnet here, been non-usable for about two weeks now. Curious though, I got the NXE update without any problem, yet when I try to navigate anywhere I get an instant 80004005.

Hope someone is going to fix this!

# Flaberfounded said on August 14, 2009 1:12 PM:

I loath the day I signed that stupid contract with HughesNet. It seems that it is not enough to randomly push me over my Fair Access Policy, " even when i'm home" but now I can't even access the xbox-live marketplace. Ohh how I miss verizon DSL.

# Flaberfounded said on August 14, 2009 1:17 PM:

I meant to say, " even when I'm NOT home"

# Rick Nix (NothinGonnaWin) said on August 16, 2009 12:34 PM:

Hughenet Customer here with same issue. Microsoft - are you working on this issue? Please post an update. Is this an issue with the latency or timeout issues associated with Satellite connectivity? Did someone at MSFT tweak up the parameters on the timeout variable and not consider the lag time of 750-plus milliseconds for Satellite users? Someone needs to go look at the server updates and more specifically, the routers into your datacenter to see who changed the settings back a few weeks ago that causes the satellite users to fail.  Thanks Microsoft!

# wtf5000 said on August 16, 2009 5:48 PM:

I contacted Hughesnet about MTU settings and they cannot be changed on any of their modems. Contacted Xbox support and they say no support for Hughesnet. I told them it worked fine before the update but they refuse to acknowledge that. They told me there is no way to un update the system either. Told I was SOL and get another provider EVEN though I told them over and over it was fine before the friggin update. I found on the xbox site a link to updating your system manually http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/systemupdates.htm     I wonder if installing this obviously older update file - look at the date - would bring us back pre avatar update and fix this or kill our system. Anyone want to try this or get support to actually support us with this novel idea?

SkylarOuellette

The Enzo Man

ThE MaSTeR 3

Anomic7

These were some Gamertags off the XBOX Live forums. I guess that Microsoft is just going to stonewall. I would recommend all of us getting refunds for the DLC we have paid for and now cannot access. As well as refunds for any remaining MS points.

The crazy part is that they have killed the part of their service that makes the money.

I really hoped that they would at least acknowledge the problem and try to fix it.

It would help if someone could actually tell us what the heck the 80004005 error actually is?

Sigh..

Getting past Sirajul or Mujibar seems to be fruitless, since their "scripts" don't have an entry for this problem.

Maybe they would acknowledge it worked when you ask for a refund for all the DLC you "couldn't have possibly Downloaded using an unsupported ISP".

# Thunt148 said on August 17, 2009 9:57 AM:

Back dating the OS wouldn't help..

I imagine the first time you logged onto Live! it would tell you to Update or get lost.

SOL.

# WTF5000 said on August 17, 2009 12:06 PM:

I know this is a stupid idea but just to get some kind of access back, what about hooking up the xbox directly to your pc and setup a dialup connection and share it(turn firewall off for dialup). There would be access to some features, small as it may be....

MS said no refunds on 'unsupported' isp. hughesnet 'support' as usual, is useless. If you have a 7000 modem I thought maybe a 9000 modem upgrade would help, it is supposed to be faster BUT after googling - http maybe faster but gaming is actually slower. Plus they want a new contract and more money. UGH.

# thunt148 said on August 17, 2009 2:54 PM:

Ok.. I actually got some response from MS. Talking turkey with a developer.  So hang on.. There might be some light at the end of the tunnel..

You may find more info on the Forums at xbox.com

Just do a search on 80004005

Apparently you can use a PC to order things for your XBOX, once you buy something it gets queued up for your XBOX.

Hello everybody, I received an email back today telling me that as I am on a satellite connection I will NOT be able to use this XBox live service, due to latency of the satellite connection. I disagree as it has worked for for a long time and only since paramenters were changed at Microsoft Corp datacenter did this fail for ALL Hughes net users.

Microsoft, don't give up on these loyal customers - go find out what changed in your settings and put it back please! Thanks

# mas1 said on August 19, 2009 4:20 AM:

Yea I mean its not like we want to play online. Why would they block us from the marketplace? Its only losing them money. Especially since we can still download stuff threw xbox.com its just a bigger pain in the ass.

# Bogie77 said on August 23, 2009 10:23 AM:

I have been getting this 80004005 code too, since the dash update. I increased my hughes service and renewed my live membership. still no help. The worst part is the guy I spoke to at xbox tried to convince me that it was hughes fault. Yet I could download any marketplace items before the satellite death update. I hope Xbow realizes what it has done to loads of it's loyal customers. I say this though, if they don't fix the problem my next console will not be an xbox!!!

At this xbox forum link http://forums.xbox.com/28641639/ShowPost.aspx , there has been a few comments on this issue that appear to come from an MS tech that says they are working on it.

If you have a minute, go drop a "me too" post in there to give this thing more visibility.

(I just swapped hardware and can't transfer my licenses because of this 80004005-- AAAAAAARG!)

Same issue here with the 80004005 error and Hughesnet. It's bad enough that it's the only kind of high speed internet I can get here in the sticks and that I can't actually play online. But this is just ridiculous. I just recently had to go through the E74 system error, which Microsoft FINALLY admitted was a hardware problem.

I'm with Hughesnet too.  Getting a 80004005 everytime I try to do anything (besides log on) with Marketplace.

I sure hope there's a fix soon.  I want to get that HD Trials game.

Ok, Microsoft. You Piss off people again. Nice Job. I Pay A lot of money for Hughes. So You Either Fix the Issue or you just lost a Xbox Live Payer and Player.

Yeah guys... I also wasted time talking to M$ and Hughes about these issues.  I love the market place and the games and for a few years enjoyed the XBOX experience...

But, after waiting since that June update to be fixed... I went out and bought a new 40" Samsung tv and a PS3.

It's BS guys!!!  But, I can use the Wii, PSP and PS3 on the Hughes service and download content like I would of on the 360.

It's Microsofts loss and it's a real phucking shame that they did this to us.  That error code 80004005 is a real kick in the nuts to all the loyal 360 users.

Well 360 lovers and haters, it's up to you to move on or to deal with microsoft's BS... I moved on to a more enjoyable gaming experience.

What a disappointment microsoft came out to be.
